Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Saturday 14th March. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.
Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Daily Threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good!
Morning OS friends!
Am hoping Tristan might feel up to logging on today so up and blearily eyed drinking redbush tea, listening to the cat purr next to me on the desk.
Not expecting him, but I like to be here - just in case. He did send me an email yesterday which was great.
Sunnygirl - I cried when I read your post from yesterday. My Treacle is living on borrowed time and I cannot imagine how I will feel when she is gone. I am so sorry for you and your family.
SunnyDay - Congratulations to you hon!
RageinEden - hugs for you - I hope today is better for you
Dorry - Nice to see you back with us.
sistercas and floss - my council apparently do not have a grant scheme to help with lopping trees.
Squiggly, Kaat lady and Ravy - hi all, hope all is well.
Well we used the rest of the ham shank meat cut up and put into a spanish omlette for dinner last night and it was delicious. So now I have to get the OH to go to the butchers and pick up a couple and check out the thread that pinkwinged suggested with all the different recipes and ways of cooking it on.
Today will be a quiet day. I would like to do some baking as the lock and locks are very empty!! Ginger cake methinks. Have a couple of cards to make but not in the zone at the moment. But they have to be done, so I hope inspiration will strike.
I hope everyone has a peaceful and loving Saturday. Do something nice today that is just for you - you deserve it!
Hugs
to everyone who needs them today.

To be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough.
If you can't handle me at my worst then you don't deserve me at my best...
Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I will try again tomorrow.

Morning peeps
i woke early so decided to have a little time on here
It`s a bit dark to go down the bottom of the garden so i`ve hung the washing on the rads for the time beiing, i`ll transfer it to the washing line later. It`s lovely to be able to hang the washing out once again, much prefer it to drying indoors, how sad am i
I shall be giving Mr Sunny a lift into work this morning and then the day is mostly mine, i need to go to the pet shop and buy a sack of food and some other bits and bobs but weather permitting i shall be in the garden again for most of the day. I have around 5 shrubs to move from the back garden into the front and some more weeding to do and hopefully i shall start some seeds off today too.
After forgetting to take something out of the freezer for tea last night we ended up with chilli and jacket potatoes, i defrosted the chilli in the microwaveI also discovered 3 bags of potatoes which are starting to sprout so i need to go and look on the recipe threads for some ideas or they will just end up mashed in the freezer, i also have soup to make from chicken stock but i think that quite a bit of that will end up in the freezer.
Sybil - I hope that you are still sound asleep in bed and that little bear is up later than usual.
Diva - Happy baking!
Stefejb - Enjoy your weekend
Steel - I wondered if any of the plant tops were salvageable to use as cabbage but they had been chewed by something so they went in the green recycling bin, i was going to compost them but the composter is a little bit too full
Candygirl - ((((HUGS)))) for your DD
I shall venture into the kitchen and empty the dishwasher, a lovely smell is drifting through the house so the breadmaker is almost finished and i think i shall treat myself and put on a large pot of coffee
Have a great day everyone.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
Morning.
Very tiny hangover from last night. Surprising as I only had 3 pints over 4 hours....oh and a whopping kebab. But I was in bed before 11. Must be the kebab.
Work this morning, so I shall be fine once I consume this coffee and a bowl of shreddies (which are not knitted by Nanas, but made in a factory by machines like every other cereal. How stupid do they think we are?)
Dropped in to ASDA on the way home from the pub with the oh driving by the way and found all their cooked chickens and stuff reduced to 10p. so we have chicken galore now. Some veg was priced at 0p. :j
Windy and cool today, so not much good for anything.
Hope everyone has a good dayNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Good morning everyone
Woke up at 5.30pm and I've been browsing a few blogs, looking at recipes and generally enjoying a good read
OH is going to be out of the house again today, so I'll be pottering in the kitchen trying out some new recipes and looking at what I've got in my storecupboard.
I'll be taking a loaf out of the breadmaker in a few minutes - the smell of freshly baking bread is driving my tummy mad at the moment. I have to leave it alone though as the loaf is a gift for someone else.
Today I plan to make spaghetti bolognese for dinner. Stretched with vegetables and lentils of courseso that I get meals for another day from it.
Big hugs (((hugs))) to those who are down or not feeling too well. Life is tough at the moment.
Have a lovely OS day everyoneEnjoying an MSE OS life0 -

Morning all,
Diva, thank youYes, all is ok, life is just soooo manic at the moment & I am functioning beyond exhaustion. I have never felt this shattered for so long. 12 more weeks of Uni left until I am finished. Managing a full-time work placement which is incredibly busy, the academic work, my paid part-time work at home, let alone house & family (including 2 DD's who have not been 100% the past couple of weeks) has taken its toll a bit. Everyone I see asks me if I am ok at the moment - I must look gooood, lol!!!!!!
However, it's Saturday morning so I don't have to get up earlySitting in bed with a cuppa & the laptop. I have study & typing to do over the weekend, but also other slightly more sociable stuff to do as well. Will probably fit in a swim at the gym as a bit of time out.
Also I have a selection of slightly manky carrots in a drawer in the fridge, so will sort them out & turn them into soup for lunch. I got a YS chicken pie in a Mr T's express store for 25p the other night, so that will be supper with jacket potatoes today. I also fancy some muffins, I might try lemon ones & stick a spoonful of lemon curd in the middle.
Sunnygirl, so sorry to hear about Penny, I am glad she was happy and peaceful at the end.
MSD, Tristan's strength & determination to keep fighting is an inspiration.
Kathy, hope the packing is going well - can't be long now?!
Betheebee, congratulations to your DD & all your family!!!!!
(((((hugs)))))) to all those needing them, have a good day all.Live your life until love is found, or love's gonna get you down" (credit to Mika!)0 -
Good morning everyone & (((((((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))))))))) to us all, there's some tough things going on now as others have said. What a support network we have here though :A
I slept like a log last night from 11pm straight through to 7am & feel much better for it. The children are all still asleep so I'm also having some quiet time surfing before the bedlam starts. Max has been fed, so have the cats, gerbils & fish just the humans to do now :rotfl: It looks like it may be a nice day so I'll get the washing out if it's blowy enough. Lunch is leftover meatballs & spaghetti or sandwiches and dinner this evening is a lasagne, wedges, salad & garlic bread. Everything was made & frozen already so it's an easy meal just the salad to make. I'm having a quiet day today just walking Max & keeping the washing mountain ticking overI hope to have some time to read my library books. I got one called Teach Youself Thrifty Living. There's not much in it that I didn't know already from this wonderful site :T but it's interesting reading. I've also got a couple of chick-lit novels to read when I want to switch off. My Mum & Dad are struggling slightly with fear after the stroke every time Dad feels a bit odd they're both worried that it could be another one. I've been making enquiries for them for local support groups which I think would help them greatly.
Enjoy your Saturdays everyone,
Louise xxx0 -
Candy I also had SPD with my 1st baby so sympathise hugely with your DD (((((((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))))))))))) to her. I got the same advice & it helps to a point but I found the worst times were in the middle of the night trying to turn over in bed. Unless I kept my knees together it was agony. It'll go once the baby is born but that doesn't make it any easier now I know.
Salopman Thank you for your kind words all so true :A
Halight How are you doing? Not seen any posts from you for a few days. Hope that you're all well.
Thanks to everyone yet again for your support. What a tremendous group of people you all are.0 -
Morning all
Bright and sunny here at moment which is more than I can say for how I feel!!!
Been up since about 3.00 a.m. and am shattered but every time I close my eyes my mind starts racing worrying about money and ended up having a bit of panicky thing so had to come downstairs to have a cuppa and try to stop worrying abit.
As I have probably mentioned before money is a huge problem for us at the moment and yest one of our closest friends was made redundant out of the blue with no warnings and I just went into panic mode. Luckily they do not have a mortgage and he will get a fairly decent redundancy package so they do not have to panic too much although they are obviously very upset. However we are not in that secure a position at all and have quite a lot of debt so I don't think we could keep our heads above water if the worst comes to the worst!
I am so grateful that I got involved with the people here coz it means that I can speak to someone about it. My OH just gets annoyed with me when I panic so I can't really talk to him and no-one else realises just how bad things are!
Enough feeling sorry for myself - there are many worse off and to those facing health issues and other worries ((((((hugs)))))).
Sorry for such a miserable post - I shall try to post again later in day when I am in a happier frame of mind.
Have a good day everyone"Keep smiling, it makes people wonder what you are up to........"Dieting ........... is no piece of cake!!!!:D

Morning everyone. ((((((((((((((((Hugs))))))))))))))) if you need and/or want them.
I had to laugh at myself last night. I can't remember who said they had glandular fever and I'm too lazy today to look back. I asked DH, what is glandular fever? I'd never heard of it. Turns out it's the same thing that is called mono in the states. Sometimes I feel really dumb with the differences in names for things between the states and here.
Today's plans include tidying up the flat and giving it a good hoovering. I need to move the sofa and recliner and get under there while I'm at it. With the two of us and one small dog, I don't know how stuff gets under there but it does. I think it just multiplies while I'm sleeping.I'm hoping I will have the energy and time to shampoo our large rug. It's looking a bit nasty in places at the moment.
I'd like to do some baking today but I'm not sure what yet. Maybe cookies and cinnamon rolls for a lazy breakfast tomorrow. I will walk down to the butcher's we tried for some meat for the week ahead. It was absolutely lovely and at what I thought was a wonderful price.
Off here now to do a bit more surfing before I get the hoover out. That's one of the disadvantages of living in a flat. It's not very nice to hoover at 8am, especially on weekends.
I hope everyone has a day that is peaceful. It seems life has been so difficult and trying for many lately. We have our problems too, yet I'm trying to remain grateful for what we do have. It helps a little most times. Take time just for yourself today. You are more than worth it. The cleaning etc will still be there later.
((((((((((((Nic1Lou2)))))))))))))) Extra hugs to you as we're in the same boat with debts right now. Fortunately DH's job seems pretty secure. It is worrying so I've just been trying to find more ways to cut back. I would love to be able to work also but there are some difficulties that prevent me doing that at the present. Just hang in there luv, it will get better.
Hugs,
Peyton xxTake the first step.
Even if you cannot see the whole staircase,
Just take the first step.
