Thanks, Adrian, for all of your research. It has helped me too.

This site has so many people, with so much accumulated knowledge it has to be worth a look, and it's free!
It's called Family tree forum, if you search on Google for it without the spaces you'll find it, I'm apparently not allowed to post a link on here yet as I'm too new!
I really would recommend this site as a good discussion site, a great, moderated, site with friendly people. There is the facility to upload a gedcom, so searching for name matches is a possibility. It's not a big and flashy as GR, but a real community spirit of wanting to help people with their research.0 -
Thank you so much, particularly Adrian R
I'm sorry it's taken a while to post my thanks.... parents evening etc etc.
These are great links, suggestions and contacts. I will be sure to pass them to colleagues as well as share them with my children and parents.0 -
I followed Sue's advice and ventured onto the Forum she mentioned. What a super site, very friendly and so helpful.
Thanks Sue:beer:0 -
If still interested, I found this today

Secondly, another way to keep up with genealogy is to listen or read blog post from well known internet genealogists.

Hi all,
Is there any way I can find out details of someone who was in the naafi in the late 1940's?working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Hi! For anyone interested, I have just found a marvellous site where folks help each other with lookups! It is called 'Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness' and I was directed to it through a lovely Audiologist I met recently...
Sorry, being a new user I can't give you a link but if you put in the name (see above) I'm sure you'll find it.
Through this site, I was able to find a lovely lady in America (Illinois) who did MORE than requested and while she wasn't able to find what I was looking for, at least now I know that it isn't there! (If that doesn't sound like double-dutch!). There are links to people all over the world who are willing to help out! And it is free, though they hope that you will put your name down to do at least one local search for someone else. Well... fair's fair.
I hope this helps some of you!

Hi to all ancestor seekers!
I'm new to this, but I have discovered that you need to be very careful where you buy birth, marriage and death certificates from. The price difference can be huge. Ancestry.co.uk charges £19.99 per certificate, but if you order them from the General Register Office you pay £7.00 if you know the reference numbers, or £10.00 if you don't. Also, do see what info you can get for free by clicking on the various links before you click on 'view the original document', which you have to pay for.0 -

I'm trying to do my family tree too & have found that these two sites are quite comprehensive and more importantly free!
The 1911 census is here. (They are planning to release the 1901 census later this year.)
As most census records before 1901 were lost, the next biggest source prior to that is I believe, Griffiths land valuation records here for approx 1847-1864.
Maybe someone else will have more ideas?0
