FreeBMD have lots of records https://www.freebmd.org.ukHere dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
And we were young.

DD came home last night and asked if I could note her down a brief family tree to help with RE Homework. I noted what I could (my parents are one of 8 and 5 respectively) and managed to get as far back as my Great Grandad. I called Mum who told me my Great Grandad was some sort animal trainer in the circus. Mum can't recall his name at all but remembers as a he had a very impressive, waxed, handlebar moustache. Of course, this could be one of those tales a Grandad tells his naive Granddaughter...
Now this is causing much amusement in our house (not in the least with OH who now says "it explains everything":p) so I decided to have a look online and try and find out which circus he was with etc
Ive found my Grandad and want to see his parents so I can at least get an occupation and try and verify this story, but all the census sites want a lot of money and I only want to see the one entry!!
Is there a cheap way of doing this? Or am I going to have to trek up to the main library?0 -
Which census year are you looking for?0

I can find him on the first link, when I click on it for more detail it asks me for card details and £5
The second link is before Grandad was born, so if I cant find him I cant find his parents as I have no details
Thanks though!0 -
Your £5 allow you to see his details and then look at several other people (like his parents) as well and can be used for some months. Read up first. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
