suspended from work

Hi everyone

Would be grateful if anyone could give me any advice.
On Tuesday night was told by my work colleague that i have been suspended, was so shocked, as he had known since 3pm and did not mention anything to me until 7.45pm was laughing and joking up til then only when he gave me a lift home, just as i was getting out the car he sais "i have some bad news for you from the manager, you have been suspended", i asked why he said he didnt know i would have to speak to the manager!!
I phoned him up on the same nite to find out why he was reluctant to tell me saying it was still being investigated, of which i replied will be taking legal action regarding this matter did he let know the reason.

i am now under the drs due to this matter have never experienced anythink like this before, if anyone could help would be grateful
thank you:confused:

Have you any inkling as to why you have been suspended?

Your boss is a coward of the highest order for not calling you into his office to tell you himself. That could be illegal. You might want to find that out.

I would note down every incident with times and dates, such as being told by your colleague in the car. Keep a detailed record of the whole scenario.

    Good luck.

If you haven't offically been told anything by your manager then the first thing to do is to call him or go to see him and ask him what on earth's going on!

I'm no expert, but I don't see that there's anyway your employers can just ask a workmate to pass something like this on - surely you have to be formally told, or even better get it in writing.

When would you next expected to be at work ?

I don't have any constructive advice but that is completely out of order that a colleague should tell you something like that without a manager speaking to your first. I hope that your colleague also faces disciplinary measures for that. Your manager should not have even discussed this with him anyway.

Keep us posted and I'm sure someone will be along who is able to give you some advice.

Not sure wen im due back, but im now looking for another job...but cant until this mess is sorted out:(
  • Hi.

Firstly, sorry to hear you have been suspended, horrible.

Do you have a union representative at your work? If so then you should seek them out immediatley and seek advice.

If not then you should contact your HR department straight away and find out what is going on. They have to give you a reason as to why they have suspended you. The reason they have to do this is because you have to be able to put up a case in your defence but if you don't know what the reason is that you have been suspended then you don't know what to defend.

Once you know this get legal advice straight away (or if there is a union rep get them involved).

As mentioned in an earlier thread make sure you take a detailed account of all of the events that happened on that day. If you have any more conversations make sure they are recorded. If you make contact then do it via a letter and keep copies.

This may sound over the top but trust me it will put you in good stead should you need to go to some kind of tribunal.

I am sure that the way you were suspended is against company policy. No verbal warning? No written warning? Getting a colleague to pass on the news. All sounds a bit suspicious to me.

If you were being suspended for gross misconduct usually you would be escorted off of the premesis.

Good luck in whatever happens and keep us posted.

Then they will have to prove that they did communicate with you.

Seems a bit trivial. Not like you've been abusing your position or stealing things. Shame that there's so much petty management out there these days.

hi have no union:( but will get HR phone number to find out what is going on
I just want to sort it out so i can move on to another job.

1 thing i have learned from this is not to be 100% commited to a job, have worked 7 days for a year helping my manager and this is what happens
  • Looks like you know what you have done wrong and have accepted it and looking to move on to another job now.
