Trying to make ipod work with laptop via audio jack

            See 'edit' on last post.
While that screens up try unplugging/pluuging the mp3 and switch it on. Realtex should pick it up and tell you if it's connected correctly.0

I only get 'Information: A jack has been plugged in'
It doesn't seem to make any difference if it's on or off.My TV is broken!

No option to change anything on that message?
If not click on the little tool icon and make sure "Enable auto popup dialogue, when device has been plugged in" is ticked and try plugging in again.
If no change try a different socket. A pop-up should appear to let you configure that to 'Line-in'.0

Oh and also make sure "Disable front panel jack detection' is unticked.0

It's determined to make this awkward! The options I need just don't appear My TV is broken! My TV is broken!

Okay. Back on the 'Mixer' tab - In the lower r'Record' area there should be another little tool icon. Click that and make sure 'Line-in' is checked. Click OK then make sure Line-in is not muted.
edit - also on the mixer tab there's a pulldown on the lower right side - see if there's another option setting as well as 'Realtek...'0

I get 3 tick boxes, nothing about muting, I think it's just to make them appear -
Line Volume, Mic Volume and Stereo Mix (just like the Windows options)
Post 27 shows the position of the sliders - can't tell if anthing is muted because the option doesn't seem to be there as it is for the Playback sliders above.
Edit: Realtek is the only option in the Input pulldown. My TV is broken!

The absence of a yellow dot beneath Line-in (is it clickable?) or a Mute option is making me think it's disabled somewhere. Maybe the Registry I mentioned earlier but the manual is pretty poor.
I'll go googling again in a bit - see what's out there. (Must do some work today;))0

The yellow dot is the selectable bit... basically an identical setup to the Windows sound input properties (although it seems a bit pointless... the only option is 'Mic boost', so I don't see the point of selecting any of the sliders.) Any of the 3 sliders can have the yellow dot if you click there.
It's all a bit weird. I really do appreciate the time you've spent. My TV is broken! My TV is broken!
