Does anyone have any advice for dealing with an immature line manager?

I've never particularly gotten on with her but recently i've found her attitude really quite rude and bolshy. Plus, she seems to have take my pregnancy announcement as a general insult to her that I won't be around doing my share of the work.

Nothing has really been said yet she just has a general snippiness about her. She has been pulled up about her rude attitude before but it lasts a day and then she sidels back into her normal way.

Does anyone have any advice please? I'm trying to ignore her but i also could do without the stress for the next few months.

    Thanks babes.

Go to your HR department and make an official complaint - make note of any specific incidents and comments - and especially if anyone else has over heard her too!
Pregnant or not such behaviour is not acceptable! The good news is that at the moment being pregnant gives you a bit of extra protection as most companies are petrified of anyone mentioning sexual discrimination (doesn't matter that she's female too btw). If she's treating your differently or negatively because you're pregnant then that is sexual discrimination...

Bear Family, I have one of these (pain in the butt manager).. It got to the point last March that I was signed off for a week due to stress. Our colleague (same level as my manager but I don't report to her) sat us both down and made me tell them everything that the manager did that bothered me - it was all stupid little things, but said with such snippiness that it was really getting to me.

Depends how brave you're feeling.. Maybe an email to her would do it (ask Nicki - she wrote me an ace suggestion for an email the other day! :D), or just a quiet word - I say email as it's something to prove you've mentioned it.

Or ask for the maternity policy along with the grievence one.. ;) That usually strikes fear into managers!

ETA: Or, yes, as Tine says, go to HR :) The grievence policy in our T&C booklet suggests trying to solve it yourself first, hence my suggestion. Is there anyone, like I had my other colleague, around you who you can ask for support from? Who had a word with her last time?
  • Can I ask a MSE question? Just had a call from Dr to say that my booking in bloods show that I have low iron levels (surprise, surprise- not an uncommon state for me) and that I need to pick up a prescription as the pregnancy vitamins I am taking are clearly not enough. How do I go about getting proof of my prescription fee exemption? It wasn't mentioned at my booking in apt, but if I'm going to be having prescription iron for the duration I would like to make th most of it being free.

    Thanks in advance ladies x x x

    Hi EA
We have the same due date. I had my first appointment at my doctors on Tuesday and am off to see the Health Visitor next week.
    It's my first too:D

G-I-S-I, you should have been given a form by your midwife at your booking appointment (her fault, not yours). You sign the form, send it off and get a little card back.

There is a tickbox on the back of the prescription form for "I have a pregnancy exemption card" (or words to that effect) which you should tick - they may ask to see the card, but if they do just tell them you haven't got it yet (wave your preg notes at them instead perhaps?). They may make you pay but if they do you can claim it back, but it's probably not worth the hassle for them to write you out the receipt so they'll let you have it anyway :)

In the long-term, contact your midwife or leave a message for her at the doctors asking for a form. She needs to complete, sign and stamp it, then can leave it at the reception desk for you to pick up. That's what I had to do too.

Tine, you mentioned raisins for iron earlier? Have sultanas got the same amount of iron in, do you know, or does it have to be raisins? Thanks! :)
