You talk to me nicely enough... ;)

edited to add that that's reminded me I need to buy some more rubebr bands - much easier to secure them with rubber bands when rolled up than string or ribbon before you tie the pretty one round it...

My brain isn't working this morning! At first I thought you meant you use an elastic band to hold the stratch mitts on with!

morning all! feeling a lot better now but you lot talk for england so do forgive me for not reading back on all the posts to see whats been going on!! has MFD been on to say how she got on?

little seth is now 4 days old and he is absolutely gorgeous, well he is now cos he's asleep but i didnt think he was when he was screaming for no reason whatsoever from 10am to 1am last night, OH ended up shutting him in the bedroom to cry it out on his own and banned me from going in and i cried lol guess that was the 3 day blues they speak of!

i went into labour on saturday afternoon but i'd had 3 false starts by then so i just assumed it was cramps caused by the sweep and i was still bleeding from it too, it didnt occur to me that it might actually have worked, i think i'd given up on the idea of ever having him by that point. it took a good few hours and OH to come home and tell me i was having a baby for me to believe it was happening! it got to the point the only way i could cope with the contractions was to kneel on the floor and bury my head in the sofa but the contractions were still only 5 mins apart and lasting only 30 seconds and the hospital said i wasnt to go in yet but i had a squinny and went in anyway cos i wanted some pain relief, but when we got to the hospital the stupid contractions stopped for half an hour! they were just about to send me home when they started up again with a vengeance and they examined me and found i was 5cm dilated which i found very pleasing. they gave me some tablets, dunno what they were but i threw them back up straight away so they didnt actually do anything so they wheeled in some gas and air for me which i've decided is the best stuff in the world, i had the radio on and was dancing around in my chair lol!!!

after a while the gas and air wasnt enough and i asked for pethidine, they told me it was too late and he would be here soon, this was at about 7am and at this point my waters promptly broke, they were full of meconium and i freaked out completely screaming at them to give me a c-section and get him out! they had to transfer me to a labour room rather than the birth centre room i was in and to be honest i dont really remember a lot after that, apparantly they gave me a very small dose of pethidine after all and he eventually made his way into the world at 11:05 showing no signs of distress after all thank god. about 5 minutes before he was born i was apparantly trying to get OH to go and put some money on the car in the car park cos it had expired and when i was crowning i kept demanding to know what colour his hair was!

it took over a hour for the placenta to come out even though i had the injection, they all thought i was going to have to have it surgically removed cos it just wasnt going anywhere but it was ok in the end. i really dont remember a lot else about the afternoon, i went into shock and had the shakes and didnt actually cuddle him for the first time since he was born until i'd had a few hours sleep, luckily after that i just couldnt put him down, they were all worried i wouldnt bond with him very well. i came home monday at 4pm, i was adamant before the birth that i didnt want to stay in overnight at all but when it came down to it i didnt actually want to come home cos i wasnt confident enough with him. but now i think we're all good and i think thats it, not the most interesting birth story in the world but hey!

    hi ladies,

for those that have given birth, do you actually recommend taking snacks? my hubby said he wouldn't want anything and i am not sure i would. just like some opinions.

I suppose it depends how long you're going to be in hospital/labour for - which is something you can't plan!

With my first i was in slow labour for 20 hours - and told to walk around the hospital grounds to get it going - we escaped to the local Maccies for lunch as I was starving!!

With my third we were only in hospital for 3 hours so there wasn't time to eat - but we stopped at the shop on the way back for bread as I 'needed' more toast after the measly slice I got in hospital!
