Oh my word, this is soooo complicated.
I've just been looking at the dialler boxes. Now obviously, I need the one which you can enter the time/day etc. byt do I really need the V4 plus thing which keeps the time correct? It is starting to get costly!!
Thanks for all help by the way.

There are basically 3 boxes - one into which you can only program one carrier (V2) and one which can program up to 9 carriers (V4) and if you are a cable user comes with an extra power supply (not always needed) - at extra cost (V4 plus).

If you are not a cable user go for the V4 at £14.99 less 20% plus postage - I think about £14 altogether.
  • Have just ordered a dialler box.

Last week I registered with Just Dial for free weekend and evening calls and received a letter from BT regarding the CPS. From 21st October none of our calls will be charged to BT but will go via Just Dial.

Now that I have ordered the box should I cancel the re-routing of the CPS abd revert back to BT? I will not use the Just Dial service until the box is installed.

Before cancelling - think why you signed up to Just Dial in the first place. If JD is cheaper in some cases over BT then choose (via the dialler) JD for those...and vice versa. With the dialler you can route back to BT when you want - eg some 0845 and 0870 calls
  • Right then. My Orchid dialler box is on order.

I will have a BT line. I will cancel the CPS with Just Dial tomorrow

    0870 Peak - 18185
    Eve & w/e - BT
    0845 Peak Dialaround
    Eve & w/e - BT
    Mobile Peak - 1899
    Off peak - 1899
    01/02 Peak - 1899
    Off peak - Just Dial

These are the companies I shall be using. I am assuming they are the cheaperst ones in each category.

How do I set up my dialler box?

    Isn't that a dichotomy?

Suggest you stick with JDS as CPS for your free 01/02 evenings and weekends.

Doesn't JD give you free calls over the w/end to 01/02 nos? (and evening midweek?). Also I thought JD capped calls to mobiles over the w/end? You say that you are cancelling JD but then show it as a carrier in your table for off peak 01/02?

Also you should probably set calls to mobiles at the w/end (assuming u cancel JD) to 18185

You can read the set up instructions (which include videos) on the Orchid website......or call Orchid and they will do the initial setting for you...

    I don't think these aren't the cheapest

Stick with Just Dial - use them evenings and weekends
BT cheapes for 0845 and 0870 - remember 18xxx suppliers rates have a connection charge added in

    You need to set

JD for evening and weekend for local and national
18185 for weekend mobiles , 1899 other times
    BT for 0800, 0845, 0870 (using 1280 redirect)

    Dont forget 118xxx and 192 redirects to freephone 0800 192 0190

Well.... at least thats what I've got set until someone tells me different ;)

I would agree with all that you have said with the exception of the 0845 and 0870 nos at peak times. For 0845 Dialaround at 2p/min is much cheaper than BT (3p) and for 0870, 18185 is much cheaper at 4p/min than BT (7.51p). I know there is a 4p connection charge - but many 0845 and 0870 calls last ages because often you have to wait for a long time to get through!

Also - I don't know the details but doesn't JD have some max charge for calling mobiles at the w/end? (ie could be cheaper than 18185).

JDS is cheapest to mobiles evenings and weekeneds if you talk for up to 20min/call. their charges are capped at 20p for evenings and 15p for weekends. after the 20min they revert to their normal tariff. :rotfl:
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????

God this is getting complicated ;)

OK, do you have a web site for 0870 lot?

Does anyone know where the swap over time is that 0845, 0870 and mobiles are cheaper on one lot than the other?
