if your are dialling 01234 567890 just dial 01234 567890# or store them in the phones memory like that?

Dialling the # at the end of the number seems to fix the problem (for cable users). An earlier post asked whether it was possible to somehow get the Orchid dialler to do this automatically. Storing in the memory would also do the trick...but that would mean loading every single number you have (or at least the the more frequently used ones) into the phone!

It wouldn't be possible to have the dialler do this automatically at the end of the number you have dialled unless you had Orchid add this number you want to dial on to their list of carriers, etc which obviously isn't wise as anyone could see it then.

I'd simply just dial the number you want and then the # and hopefully Call1899/18866 will get round this problem.

Thats what I am hoping, I emailed them yesterday!
  • Hi,

Is anyone having problems connecting the CWClient to the Orchid Servers at the moment? I have been unable to connect for a few days now. I have emailed Orchid support but as yet have had no reply.

    Thanks

Like I said I don't think its possible. The diallers can add stuff (routing info) at the beginning including pauses (the #) and then the dialler passes the number you originally dialled to it but I don't think it can then suddenly add a # at the end of what you dialled.

    For example:-

Say you use Call1899 via their freephone number and you dialled 01234 567890.

The dialler simply dials Call1899 freephone access number along with a few pauses and then passes the number you dialled on to the end.

    In other words, the dialler actually dials "0808 1 708 708 ### 01234 567890".

    I don't think it's possible to have it add an # on the end of 01234 567890 so the dialler would then dial "0808 1 708 708 ### 01234 567890 #"

Orchid can add on characters after the initial freephone number like adding an extra # (so the dialler would then dial "0808 1 708 708 #### 01234 567890") but I think once it then passes the number you dialled (01234 567890) it can't do anything else.

The only way I'm aware it could work is if you asked Orchid to add, "0808 1 708 708 ### 01234 567890 #" as a carrier but this is where everyone else (like me) using the dialler would see your entry of 01234 567890 and therefore someones personal phone number.

I could be wrong let us know what they say about it.

Is anyone using 1899 (via Telewest using 0808) with Orchid dialler experiencing a slow response - about 30-40 seconds from hearing the tones for the real number to hearing "this is a free call" for a UK landline call?
I've been using the 0808... access number to 1899 for calls on my mobile for sometime now and have also noticed today that I am suffering with the same problem of needing to press "#" to get connected. Weired as why would 1899 change something that was working perfectly well? It is obviously easier to resolve on mobiles as I can just add the # to the stored number in the phone memory. Is it possible that this change is signalling the end of 1899 access through NTL, cable or mobiles? From other posts it seems that 18866 is having the same issue with non-BT access.
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????
