  • Hi, just read your diary so thought it would be rude not to stop and say hello!

I can so relate to your plight with the oh's coffee! my fella is a truck driver and thought nothing of spending £70+ a month on the garages coffee. It has taken me a while but he now takes a flask of hot water and the satchets of frothy coffee to make his own!

    keep up the good work,
    love rags

    Hi rags,

We have actually had some success with the coffee - doing exactly what you are doing, with sachets of the frothy stuff!! Dont quite manage every day, but its a start!! :rotfl:

    All is good!

Budget under control, sticking to shopping lists, meal planning carefully. :T

Called Tesco CC yesterday & lowered the limit - first time we have ever done that - usually has been the cycle clear the balance/run it up/clear the balance/run it up etc etc :o but I am determined to drop it every time we've cleared a chunk so it cant go up again.

Virgin media chap came on Friday & installed the phone line - so we're with VM for phone/tv/broadband now, which will save, as is cheaper than talk talk. :T

Next thing I need to look at is the sickness/redundancy insurance, as it has gone up from £28 to £37 /month, & I'm really not sure its worth it. Need to read the small print & see exactly what it covers!

DH spoke to his dad yesterday about the wedding thing - apparently his mums in orbit :rotfl: I know I shouldnt laugh, but
  • Hello Mogchops

Just read through your diary and really impressed. You are doing so well. I really must start meal planning as I am doing the "what the h*ll do I cook" when I get in.

    Hi KP,

Still going pretty well here, I think the budgets are working, though am hoping that will stretch to next payday (20th) without having to dip into something I shouldnt! :o Mind you, this is my first month, so its a big learning curve!!

Lots of seeds planted, and some already growing, really hoping will have home grown veggies for the summer. Fingers crossed!

Quidco payment today - a whole £3 odd  Wowee!! But have got about £100 to come over next couple of months so that will be nice to pay off something.

This site has really been the kick up the whatsit I needed to really do something about the money situation! Am so focussed now on what goes in & what goes out, & how much I spend on groceries (still loving the meal planning!! :rotfl: ) And its great to read other peoples stories, especially the successes. Heres to all DFW's!!!! :T

Arggggggggghhhhhhhh I must try and get some seeds soon!! Sadly right now I'm a bit stuck at home, I daren't go far in case I hurt too much and can't walk any more;)
So just pottering round the house....wish I had some seeds and compost/tubs then I could get going - or get my 10yr old to get going anyway:p

And me too - I enjoy meal planning! I love having a little list of food for the week...sad, moi??!!!:rotfl:
I really need to sort out a new signature!

Milly, you need to be taking it easy!!! Just concentrate on getting better, or shouting at the doctors until they fix you!! I'm sure you'll be able to get some things planted once you are feeling better!

Something positive - have had a few heart-to-hearts with DH about alcohol this week, nothing to do with the money, just trying to make him see that I am worried for his health. He does know this, but with any form of addiction (smoking, drinking, chocolate :p ) you have to be able to do it for yourself, not because someone is telling you to. Our DDs are aged 9 and 6, and, in his words, " I want to be around when they have children".

So he has started cutting down. Its a small step, but its the first step, which is the hardest and I am very proud of him. (As I have said before, he is not a "down the pub/10 pints a night" drinker, just a "few cans every night" drinker, but its still too much.)

So we are moving in the right direction!! :T

And in other news....:p Seeds still going well, weather been good this afternoon, made nice savoury mince for tea and froze large portion as well! Am getting the hang of this meal stretching lark!! :rotfl:
  • Hello

Well done on the minor breakthrough with OH. Its hard when there is an addiction in the family even if they control it fairly well. Nothing you can do but try to support.

OMG just had to come and share this!!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

We always keep our cat in at night. Last night, she hadnt come in, so we left the catflap on "in but not out" (so she could come in but not go back out again). She came in about 1am. Fine.

This morning, I come down & find the conservatory trashed - everything off the windowsills, blinds all askew and one blind broken!! Not happy, blame it on the cat.

Cut to tonight, elder DD goes to bed at 9am, then shouts down the stairs "mummy, there's a cat under my bed and its not ours".  Up I go with a torch - and yep, there's a giant tabby under her bed!! So we deduce that another cat came in with ours last night, but couldnt get out again, so decided to set up home!!! DH is at work (how convenient!) So I'm there with a torch, a broom and a big pair of gloves trying to get the flaming thing out without waking younger DD who is asleep in the same room!

Eventually success - cat flies down the stairs & hides behind armchair. I chase it out from armchair - back up the stairs & under the bed again (YES I FORGOT TO SHUT BEDROOM DOORS   ) So another go with torch & broom & hooray its down & out.

DD goes to bed, I settle on sofa.

2 hours later, our cat is scratching around and squeaking in the kitchen. I peered behind the bin - ITS STILL THERE!!! The flaming thing had jumped behind the bin and wedged itself behind the dishwasher!!!! You couldnt make this up!!! So I shut our cat upstairs, shut all the other doors, made a barricade between kitchen and lounge (no door) opened back door, emptied dishwasher, (clean luckily) pulled out dishwasher, brandished broom and FINALLY watched it shoot off up the garden!!! :T :T :j :j

WHAT an evening!!! It was huge as well, twice the size of our little puss!!!
