I agree if you have just the one card & pay off every month then cashback is great. Its when cards are used for everyday expense as shopping , petrol etc & you can`t afford to pay in full every month that the slippery slope begins.

I did that for years until I renovated property & then took ill.All was well until then. I now see credit cards as an money making device that the Banks make a massive profit on ...one month interest 15-29%...no thanks

PS feel free to replace Stoke with Derby anytime....I`m not offended.:D :D

I don't think I was rude about stoke on trent in that post. Which is unusual for me. I normally make some reference to the fact that it is the place JRR Tolken based Mordor's cloud of eternal darkness on. Or the fact the weather is so bad that it has to rain upwards two months of the year because there's no room left for it to rain downwards. But in that post, i wasn't rude about it at all.

Oooh!! Now you really have passed the point of no return - LOTR is my favourite book/s too!! I, in fact, dont have that particular problem with water drainage as I live on the top of a hill and also, Ive never seen the 'Eye'!!, so I think you may be telling little porky here. But I can see Asda's green sign as clear as day from my window (and yes, I have more than one) and we know what over zealous control they have!! Particularly over the distribution to shoppers of plastic carrier bags. And finally! Dont you know that the most famous of famousy people who ever existed comes from Stoke??? [STRIKE]Anthea Turner!!![/STRIKE] [STRIKE]Robbie Williams!!![/STRIKE] Nick Hancock!!! Now we're talking. Oh, and pottery...well til they all went bust;)

I love doing cash. I say to the cashier, "excuse me do you take cash?", causes a laugh I can tell you.

This is something I have encountered elsewhere. I think we need to change the attitudes towards debt and bankruptcy because pretty soon if the economy doesn't change there will be plenty more of us going down this route.

I have been suicidal due to debt, would it have been better to end it all (nobody would have missed me due to fact that I have no family or friendships) or to face this and declare myself bankrupt?

"Welcome to the real world" is an idiotic phrase touted by those who have nothing better to say and have had zero experience of "your real world" - they may be money rich and above fault in their own minds but as people they are compassion-poor especially if they feel it necessary to embarass themselves by berating and passing comment on those they have never met.

The thing is that life is a learning experience: some of us can not see into the future and thereby avoid all the pitfalls; some of us due to social conditioning are not sure what we are capable of; some of us have to learn by making mistakes.

Yes, we pay for those mistakes with far more than money, and until they have experienced this for themselves, they should resist giving us a "piece of your mind" unless ofcourse it is to give "peace of mind" to the individual who finds themselves in this unenviable position.

Shadowdragon - the ironic thing about owning an older car is that this is exactly what the stealthy wealthy do.

Please dont say that, please dont even think that, there is always somebody who would miss us if we werent there, even if it is just the next door neighbour or the man at the papershop. (anyway, we would miss you) although it might take a week or so before we did lol
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

I am also confused as to why you are looking at Bankruptcy threads, if you have had nothing to do with bankruptcy ever before ?
Do people from the bankruptcy forum never read other forums?
I normally only post on the Savings & Investments forum but do read most of the other forums.
I wouldn't though, voice my opinions on the bankruptcy forum, as I don't think that would be appropriate.

You are so right....I often also read other boards.....would never ,ever post on many...even though I have extensive knowledge on most financial topics. I think its about priorities....mine are currently on here & others` are on their respective `current` situations.

Thankyou for just putting a little persepective. Of course we can post elsewhere whenever should we feel we have a valid contribution to make. Its that old `fresh eyes/ideas` theory that is invaluable.

I am pleased that we get non BR effected posters reading this board....sadly the state of the economy is forcing more & more to consider this option.

    Take care, Angiex
