About 12 loads usually, 3 of these are nappies now.0

I tend to let laundry build up
and then do mammoth sessions at the weekend but I am trying to get into the habit of doing one every second day so that I can dry it on the pulley saving tumble drying costs
Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
usually one every 3 or 4 weeks ...alternating whites, darks and towels and bedding.. might have been more (but not much more)when we used to have a washing machine but now it costs us about 10 quid rather than 50p it used to at home we have had to cut down..this is for me and one male flatmate btwWhat Would Bill Buchanan Do?0

Reverbe I feel your pain! I was without a washing-machine for over a year when my old one died and I couldn't afford to replace it. The cost of the launderette was crippling, especially the drier in the winter months out of my JSA. I'm not ashamed to say that as I wasn't leaving the house every day I wore most items of clothing for several days and PJs were only changed once a week. Desperate needs etcetera. I did a fair amount of hand-washing of smalls but getting stuff dry in an unheated home wasn't much fun either as I was very concerned about causing condensation and damp.
I've since invested in a second-hand machine and it has a made a huge and life-enhancing difference, especially now that the weather has finally taken a turn for the better. Now, I can start getting to grips with the massive stockpile of curtains, bed-covers and all that other heavy stuff.0 -
Thanks for sympathising Bitter. TBH its much more annoying that we havent had a working fridge/freezer since it stopepd working last Summer
But I can not get over the laundrette cost..as I have outlined on MSE boards before in reply to a post by Martin. it costs 2 bus fares at approx #1.20-30 each..5 , 6 or 7 in a washer and a few quid in dryers as cant take it home wet as have only a line hung over bath to dry on..:(
I do all the same as you did.. most clothes dont actually get dirty and I have a good stock of pants, socks hankies etc.. pjs IF worn get worn with undies under and I dont sweat so dont get that dirty either. Towels are individually used person by person and hung on the boiler to dry between uses..fmate tends to have a good wash more than have a shower due to time. We have about 5 tea towels and the bedding gets washed when it needs it..I do do handwashing between washes but dont really trust my skill at this to gte them really clean so do iton a make do basis until I can go to laundrette (time .money, etc) similarly some items get handwashed ie work uniform/items when I was working at Xmas as worked all day every day and didnt have time to go to the laundrette. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -
Have you contacted your landlord about the non-working fridge/freezer if you're renting and it was supplied with the property?
If no-go perhaps you could scour Freecycle for one or perhaps there's somewhere local that reconditions second-hand ones. No washer AND no f/f must be absolute misery. Just as well that the sun's shining today, eh?0 -
Thanks for the tips.Unfortunately we or rather my flatmate owns his property on a mortgage.I've tried freecycle but ours never has anything like that going and also wont let you ask for something until you have offered.. ( i dont think we have anything we are not already using or that we have that isnt something we can try to sell)
Yes the sun is shining but tbh id rather the snow and cold cos at least then the milk lasts longer than a day and we dont have to throw it away.. must be the only one round here was jealous of those who have had snow recently lolWhat Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -
1 load of darks and 1 white/lights per day.
4 lots of bedding per week (on a good week - it does occasionally go to 2 weeks)
towels as appropriate - not one person can put a used towel back on the rail......
and from April - Sept cricket/fishing gear!:jFlylady and proud of it:j0 -
i prob wash more than i should, but it proberly would bother others more than me,lol. i enjoy washing, dried and ironing it.
i was all the bedding once a week ( usually a monday) 4 beds, 3 single , 1 king. takes 2 loads. then i have the usual 2 loads of daily washing, underwear from 5 , pj's from 3 little ones, clothes from previous day etc. and a footie kit from monday night.
i also do extra washes every day, of cushions form the sofa, or the sofa covers, voiles from the windows, table runner and table clothes, curtains, coats, towels and throws etc.
i prob average about 15-20 loads a week. each wash cycle takes 39mins washes on a 30. nothing is ever very dirty, more times than most i do it to freshen up. i will do a boil wash of towel's every couple of week's. as i wash the towles after one use so never really dirty, and there only used for family, but i like to know the've had a boil wash.0
