Do I really need to shower/bath EVERY day??

Same goes for me, 2 showers a day - norning and evening. if not i dont feel fresh, even though i would be clean really, i still dont feel comfortable getting into bed without having a shower, neither do i feel comfortable putting on fresh clothes if i didnt have a shower in the morning... We dont have a bath anymore and a shower is easier to wash my long hair and its quicker to take a shower, than to have a bath. I get cold very easily, so in winter i dont ever have a bath, feel too cold having my top half not covered in hot water... only way to overcome this is to fill the bath to the rim with water, bit of a waste.
I only wash my hair every other day, using a showercap to keep my hair dry on the days that I don't wash it. there is no right or wrong when it comes to washing your hair either, people have different hairtypes, so this will always differ. mine is particular thin and limp and gets oily after 2 days.. and if i dont wash and style it, its very body-less and limp. these days you have shampoos specially made up mild enough to use everyday, so it doesnt matter how often u wash it, more importantly is that you dont use heat-styling too often...
As for the showergel/soap issue, i use dove soap only, smells better than any bodywash, and lasts longer for me than most showergels... i say most, as there are some showergels that gives me enough 'foaming' without having to use too much of the bottle in a single shower...
Funny enough how people refer to how things were being done decades ago, as if everything else didnt change!!
years ago, my grandmother and them was married and had a family of 6 by the time they reached age 21!! (well just about!)
these days most couples only marry aged: 25-32...
Whole lifestyles have changed, from how and what we eat to what we do for a living to society and general behaviour, we cant possible still wanna have everything modernised, but still only have a bath once a week!!!!
there is nothing worse than having to be near a smelly person.. especially at work!!! Worst is that they are the last to realize the vapours being emitted from themselves!!!** i didn't lose my mind, i sold it on ebay **0 -
When I read the topic of this thread I laughed my head off. I could tell you a few jokes on the subject.
I shower every night & sometimes a quickie during the day if it's really hot and sweaty. I would shower in the morning but I have a wash instead as we are on tank water and you have to be careful.Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -

Yes they did all smell. So if you all smell you can't always tell who smells the worst. And I don't believe that anyone was suggesting going back to having a bath once a weekNot sure where you got that from. The point we where trying to make was that they suffered from less skin problems and where healthly as they were not using tons of chemicals to wash themselves and there hair. There hair and skin was probably in a lot better condition then most peoples today. Who shower and wash there hair everday.
A point I tried to make and went totally over peoples head and believe that AussieLass mentioned was about the avaliablity of fresh water. We are consuming ever more of it. And there is only so much. So for some of us it is about saving money on are water bills. For others it maybe about being green and not trying to consume so much of the earth resources.
As year after year we are seeing more and more hosepipe bans being introduced very early in the year because of the heavy demand on water. It will only get worse. And all these people who shower twice a day may find in few years time if water companies don't sort themselves during the summer being restricted to one shower a day if they are lucky. Lets hope we never have to go back to the use of tankers on street corners or the use of stanpipes.
Just because I don't have a shower everday and have a strip wash in between does not mean I am any less clean then someone who showers everday. I have used water and soap and have washed my skin.
If you are doing a very sweaty or dirty job than I can understand showering everday or twice a day. But for most people they don't even break out in sweat let alone get a speck of dirty on them. And shower twice a day and change clothes a couple of times a day.

Me and 3 children bathe every other day (dodgy skin) and I perform sinky ablutions on non bath/shower days. DH washes hair every morning and baths extensively especially on Sundays. His favourite quote goes something like "when you've had as many baths as you can usefully have on a Sunday afternoon.." can't remember exactly or which tv prog. it's from. DH had dreadful skin as child - wet wraps at children's hospital etc. but his Mum is OCD and has a bleach fetish (think this is a mill town thing, she's from manchester and I saw Jane Horrocks on 'Who do you think you are') so maybe our non double glazed slightly grubby house (in process of doing up and have messy children/OH) is better for him?
Always use shower gel - can't stand slimey soap (children/OH leave it in bath or sink of water) and have to spend extra on cleaning soap scum.
Used to work as Basic Skills Tutor on goverment Basic Employability Training/New Deal scheme. Biggest barrier to employment wasn't not being able to read or add up but being dirty/smelly or both. Majority of time spent on basic hygiene, personal and food, then household budgeting/debt problems. Very interesting job, especially in summer when small hot room in former workhouse (?) with windows that didn't open was full of 20 variously smelly people and oh those rainy days with the wet dog smell!Proud to have dealt with our debt. That's why a shower cap is such a brilliant invention. Especially as I shower at night and have long hair.
As someone who uses public transport, I implore everyone to shower daily.
Seriously, I cannot believe some of the smells I experience on buses and the tube, especially in summer.'Everyone loves to read but it can be a real nuisance when you lose your place. I try to have a quick shower most days, but can sometimes go 2-3 days between showers. Nobody has complained and believe me they would if I did smell. As for what I use in the shower... water only. Stopped using soap years ago except for when I am really dirty. After a short while (really not that long), your skin achieves a natural balance and you don't smell and unless doing a lot of exercise, don't sweat as much either.0

I Have to shower everyday as my work involves food. My wife and daughter also shower daily. On the subject of washing hair, I keep mine short about 3 mm when cut every 5 weeks so not bothered that I wash it evryday. We still use far less water than we would if we all had baths. My tip is to turn down the water pressure on the shower so you have less water coming out. Also could turn the water off when washing your hair then turn it on to rinse. Turn off to wash your body then turn back on to rinse your body.
Learnt this in the Army in Bosnia when had to shower in freezing water. You can wash you hair and shower in about 45 seconds very easily. A freezing shower on a freezing day will make you feel very warm afterwards.
The longest I ever went without a shower or bath was 16 days on Exercise in Germany in 1984. Did wash bits everyday. Did not notice the smell as everyone else around me was in the same boat.3.795 kWp Solar PV System. Capital of the Wolds0
