Do yu mean you dont shower at all, you only bath once a week,
QUOTE]
roll back the clock to 1950s and you possibly were not born then mckneff, everyone bathed once a week. Us children went into the bath one after another, 5 of us. We would also wear the same clothes all week, changing to sunday clothes on sunday
Same in the 60's kittie, at least it was when I was a child.
Sunday evening was bath night. I went in first as the eldest followed by my brother who's 4 years younger and according to my mum needed cooler water.
My parents had separate baths later that evening and that would be it for the week. Strip wash at the bathroom sink each morning after that.
And I remember mum sponging marks off my clothes so they could be work again without washing, but I do the same today I've just realised with jeans, can wear them 3 or 4 times before I wash them.
When I had a job I bathed every evening and washed hair twice a week. Now as I seem to be a housewife, I have 2 baths a week and strip wash by the sink on the other days.
I think it depends what you do during the day, hot weather and digging in the garden will lead to daily baths here but hubby and I will share one to keep costs down.
Hubby has a shower every day except for a long soak on Saturday mornings when you can't get him out of the bath!
No deodorant in the 50's either from what mums told me, she used underarm shields to stop perspiration showing through
EDIT: How could I forget night sweats these days, then I'm liable to be in the shower several times a night!!!0 -
Hi Kittie, I was one at the end of 1950 and funny, even in the mid seventies the kid were bathed on a sunday night.
We had a council house and had a bathroom but many of my friends in the fifties had a tin bath in front of the fire.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I have a shower every morning, and wash my hair about 3-4 times a week as it's long and thick:D:DI also have a bath when I want to relax.I'd feel filthy if I only had a strip wash:eek::eek::eek:"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

No bathroom and only cold water when I were a lass! Now I shower every day - sometimes I fancy a bath, but once I'm in there I find it hard to relax....so spend less time bathing than I do showering!Normal people worry me.0

I remember Sunday bath night rituals, and I'm only 28!
Bath, dry, nightie on and sitting infront of our electric heater letting my hair dry naturally (=frizzy hair) watch a bit of tv, read a book then bed.
I do know that I had a bath or 2 during the week and got scrubbed every morning with soap n water (flannels what where they? Lol)Living Simply, not simply living.Weight Loss - 5b/55lb

I agree with Lola, I'm 28 too and had a bath every Sunday when my hair would be washed (with vosene!) and then plaited for the week. We didn't have a shower growing up so we would stand in the bath and have a good wash using soap and a flannel every morning and night. Then mum would pour the water from the basin over us in a kind of HM OS shower! *End of Nostalgia* It was fine when I was a kid but there is no way I would go without my twice daily showers now. Maybe it is a sign of the times but I love that clean feeling. I may have OCD but I even have a quick shower after having a bath, just to rinse myself! There are many things in life that will catch your eye, only a few will catch your heart. Pursue those.0

(flannels what where they? Lol)
I'm always surprised so few people iuse faceclothes ''nowadays'' and I'm only a few years older than you. I use a clean one each day, and when done quickly wipe up the bath and sink area with it before chucking it into the basket. I have LOADS of them, and they are like nothing else for cleaning back of neck, behind ears, between toes etc, and of course face!0 -
I can remember going to stay with my Dad's cousin in Rochdale in the 1960s. He didn't have a bathroom and washed in the kitchen sink . He would heat the water in a kettle on a ledge in front of the fire. I can't remember him smelling of anything although I can remember another relative smelling of pipe tobacco.
He would go to the public baths if he wanted a bath.
Even at home we only had baths once a week then and we were only allowed to put the bathroom heater on when we got out of the bath as it used a lot of electricity.
A lot of people would wash in the kitchen in the winter as it was the only warm room.0 -
Definitely remember weekly bath night! But, as someone else has said, heating water for a bath was very much more diffficult in the 50's. When I was working it was a daily shower and hairwash - now I probably shower and wash my hair every other day with a strip wash alternate days. Wouldn't be without flannels.Resolution:

Me and the OH shower and wash our hair everyday. As I commute by bike I usually need a shower when I get home. OH is a fitness fanatic so he usually has another shower too, but if we're home at the same time we shower together0
