Some old style ways should remain in the old days,,
I remember as a child (60/70's)having a once weekly bath and hair wash, then sat in front of the coal fire having my thick waist length curly hair "bone combed",,in between days i was stood in the belfast sink, one side for washing and the other side(over the mangle)for getting dried.
I carried on the tradition of bone combing with my 2 daughters, but ditched the weekly bathing in favour of either a daily bath or shower.
Just because something is "old style" doesnt necessarily mean its a good thing, lolSlimming World..Wk1,..STS,..Wk2,..-2LB,..Wk3,..-3.5lb,..Wk4,..-2.5,..Wk5,..-1/2lb,Wk6,..STS,..Wk7,..-1lb.

A couple of showers a week to wash hair etc, then tops and tail with a flannel - don't have a problem with that.
mind you when I get the chance to have a good soak in the bath with a book - bliss

I never use the shower I love my bath and can think of nothing better at the end of a day than a nice long soak.
Since I have long hair I wash it about four times a week,I don't like to dry the ends out too much.
We had no bathroom(or kitchen come to that) for nearly three months when we were renovating this house and we just washed top to toe every night and morning with a bowl and clean flannel.
Hair washing was fun,I had to wash my hair in the garden with the hose as that was the only running water we had but we survived and at least we can look back and laugh about it.
I still like to do a final rinse in cold water even now :rotfl:.
We managed to keep very clean but we went through a few dozen flannels every week.
I had a weekly wash load just for the flannels alone.0 -
Showers use up considerably less hot water than a bath, so it's not money saving to only have one bath a week instead of a daily shower. In the old days of course, before we had combi boilers and electric showers it was a hassle to get enough hot water ready for a decent bath so it wasn't a daily occurance. Anyone remember when the kids all got bathed in one bath, then Mum went in, then Dad? We used to do that when the kids were small and we only had an electric immersion heater...I used to go in with the toddlers, actually, then Hubby had a quick wash down after. But we did do it every second day!
It is of course perfectly possible to get properly clean and pong free using a sink or bowl of water, soap and a facecloth. I do this while camping sometimes..even wash my hair. But if anyone is having a weekly bath + strip wash rather than a daily shower to save money well, it probably doesn't.
Best thing we ever did was put in a combi boiler tbh. Four of us on daily showers uses a fair bit of water but with a teenage boy and a sweaty OH, to say nothing of the female hormones of DD and myself in the house it would get a very stinky place very quickly without showering. In the old days people didn't wash their clothes as often either, remember? I think the tolerance for BO must have been a great deal higher!Val.0 -

Do yu mean you dont shower at all, you only bath once a week,

roll back the clock to 1950s and you possibly were not born then mckneff, everyone bathed once a week. Us children went into the bath one after another, 5 of us. We would also wear the same clothes all week, changing to sunday clothes on sunday0 -

Yes, I remember that. That was before we became Mum & Dad though. The kids would be scandilised if we tried to do that nowadays!Val.0 -
my youngest has quite bad exzema and we bath all 3 together so my kids only get bathed once a week (unless theres a wee accident in which case i put the bigger 2 in the shower but they don't really like it) i avoid baths myself as the boiler in this house is too small to fill the bath properly, to get a proper full bath i need the water heater on for an hr pour out all the hot water, fill up 4-5 kettles then top up with the rest of the hot water, i like a nice full bath, it fustrates me that i can't have one, so i shower every 2-3 days it's also cheaper on electric because theres not all that faffing about, before we had our youngest i made everyone have a shower instead of a bath for 2 months and the change in our elec bill was shockingDEC GC £463.67/£450
