Good things to say about the Blackpool Central travelodge. Brand new and the rooms were lovely!
And amazingly its in the centre of all the hub ub and above a club but there was no noise! (We were on bottom floor). Our friends had a bit of noise from other guests but they soon got told to shut up.
Lovely for a little trip away though
Has anyone stayed at the TL in Sunderland though? Have booked it for the GN run weekend (was all we could get), and the reviews look terrible. But Ive learnt to take Trip Advisor reviews with a pinch of salt!!
Anyone on here been?Green and White Barmy Army!0 -

I've stayed in many travelodges but they do tend to change over time so I think view from more than a year ago aren't really relevant, so I'll go through the ones that I've stayed in during the last year.
Barton Mills (A11 nr Mildenhall). If you can get one of the refurbished rooms in the extension then it's excellent. If not then rather average. Not much on site apart from a Little Chef. An excellent pub in 'The Olde Bull' across the road in Barton Mills, but that road does happen to be a dual carriageway, so it's not for the faint hearted or slow!
Pontefract / Ferrybridge. On first impressions very 1980's and run down, the furnishings are badly in need of replacement, as are the bathrooms. However they usually have the cheapest prices around and I've nearly always had a good nights sleep there. Just ask to be as far away from the burger king next door as you can as the a/c fans run into the night. It's in a service area so it's handy for travelling but there's nothing else on site.
Leeds Colton. Ticks all the boxes for me and I stay here often. In a complex with a Harvester pub, McDonalds, KFC and Pizza Hut with Sainsbury's across the road. The rooms have always been very nice and clean and it's always very quiet, just avoid 212 as there's a buzzing noise from the water system! Relatively modern, early 2000's construction. Although it is in Leeds it's right on the outskirts and it's quite a journey into central Leeds so if I wanted central Leeds I'd choose Leeds Central or Vicar Lane. But Leeds Colton is very handy for the M1.
York Tadcaster. The rooms have been refurbished quite recently due to flooding so the design is quite different from most travelodges. LCD TV on the wall looks fancy but it's very hard to see from the sofa. Very sparse design makes the room look quite empty! The bathrooms have not been included in the upgrades but they do the job.
It's in an A-road service area with a Little Chef, Petrol station and literally nothing else.
York Central. Slightly older vintage than Leeds Colton so starting to show some wear and tear but I've had many a good stay here. Only thing to note is noise can be a problem, I would not like to stay here on a Friday or Saturday. Also rooms looking out to the courtyard have noise from the downstairs pub. But having Wetherspoons downstairs is a real plus.
It's only 5 minutes walk to the centre of York. Parking is free in Peel Street car park between 6pm and 8.30am otherwise it's £10 per day.
Doncaster. Shabby looking and a funny smell to it. Having said that always had a decent nights sleep. In an A-road service area so just little chef and petrol station and nothing else. Don't book unless it's £19 or less.
Doncaster M18/M180. In a moto service area. Other than that rather average. Had dirty bedding the last few times I was there so I don't plan on going back.
Hull South Cave. Only stayed once, dirty and shabby I won't be back.0 -

Has anybody stayed at the new one in Scarborough (St. Nicholas) yet? If so, is there any way around the £6.50 per 24hrs pay & display parking?
Thanks0 -
I recently stayed at the Cambridge Fourwentways Travelodge which is in a very pleasant location surrounded by fields and trees, very quiet but there is a Little Chef close by. It is handy for the A11, A605 and M11, main purpose of visit- to see Duxford Imperial War Museum, an aviation buffs dream. The same week I also stayed in Birmingham Oldbury TL which is conveniently placed for the Black Country Museum, in Dudley. This was a surprisingly quiet location despite being close to a main road it is well hidden behind a petrol station and Little Chef. Both TLs highly recommended.Cask Ale Fan:beer:0

I've stayed there - last time was October last year when I went to an event at a nightclub in Sunderland - it was cheaper than a taxi back to Newcastle!!!
We thought it was absolutely fine - but then again we went out about 7pm and didnt get back till 3 in the morning!! There is a fantastic Wetherspoons underneath the hotel (the Lambton Worm) which is good for a meal and a drink.
BUT!!!!
There is also a nightclub next door to the Wetherspoons which obviously, being a weekend, will be busy till the early hours. And the clinking of bottles being chucked into the skip in the early hours is also very annoying - take earplugs!!! Also if you need a taxi for any reason, ask for the number when you check in - when we left the hotel early evening and needed a taxi, we waited 15 minutes at reception for someone to come to us!!!
Which brings me to my next point. To get into Newcastle for the race, public transport is advisable. Its a fair walk to the Metro (probably Park Lane rather than Sunderland is your best option) but that's at least 15 minutes away. Also be aware there isnt much around there early morning - I had to walk 20 minutes through the centre of Sunderland to find a newsagents to buy a drink, a paper and some painkillers!!!
Parking is also fairly limited - and bear in mind it WILL be busy that weekend, I used to work in a hotel in Newcastle and we used to be booked months and months in advance, it was absolute lunacy!!! The hotel is a little shabby and the lift v. small but we found it clean and adequate.
Finally, may I just say YOU ARE VERY FORTUNATE to have found anything as close as Sunderland at this late stage - we used to be full that weekend from about early January, and I worked at an out-of-town hotel at Newcastle Airport!!!!!!!!!*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200 -
I can confirm that the Sunderland Travelodge sits above a Wetherspoons pub (The Lambton Worm), a loud late bar (Bud Bigalows), and a lap dancing club (The Players Lounge). There are also around 5 late bars to the left of the building, and a large handful of late bars and nightclubs around 50 yds in the opposite direction.
My advice? Take EAR PLUGS!!! Sunderland women are very LOUD, and love to shout and argue!! The Sunderland Travelodge is also known locally as the knocking shop, mainly because its convenient for drunk lads to take their evening scores there for a quick one (under the name 'Smith' obviously), so I would also expect to be kept awake by banging headboards!Profit=sanity

!!!!!!!!!
ABSOLUTE POPPYCOCK!!!
Park Lane Metro station is just around the corner - a 3 minute walk from the Travelodge. Sounds as if someone gave you the wrong directions mate!
There are 3 newsagents and a Tesco Metro, all within 5 minutes walk from the Travelodge.
There is a huge multi-storey car park adjacent to the travelodge.Profit=sanity
