Barclays Golden ISA feedback

stAnTon,
I have not insulted any member of this board and simply stated that if someone wishes to post info gained from a "contact" regarding previous applications they should make sure the info is correct before questioning my recent experience.
Are you the simple contact castrovalva mentions? By the venom directed at me, which could be classed as insulting, I think you may well be.
I only came on this board to inform people of what to expect if they tried to do what Barclays have been happy to do in the past but if you have a problem with this then so be it. By the way don't post statments that post dated cheques are unlawful as that just makes you look silly like the majority of the people running the organisation you work for. It's far better to be penny wise than pound foolish.

The British Bankers' Association doesn't appear to agree with that statement - http://www.bba.org.uk/bba/jsp/polopoly.jsp?d=263&a=1531&view=print
But then
http://www.barclays.co.uk/importantinfo/cust_agree.html
Section 4.6
"You must complete cheques so that they are not easy to alter and you must not put a date on your cheques which is after the date of signature. If you do, we will not be liable for any loss to you as a result of us paying a cheque before the date you have put on it."
Woolwich T&Cs were the same - so I would think most banks would be the same.0 -
I don't care what your contact say's because I and many others know that Barclays have taken cheques in advance for the past two years minimum.
You are not opening the ISA in advance but simply doing all the paperwork and leaving a post dated cheque. Quite simple really, just like your contact by the sounds of things.
Seems Barclays can't win can they?
If they don't open the ISA on time as in previous years there in the wrong.
If they improve the process so the account is opened there and then your still not happy.
If a member of staff refuses to break the rule but accepting a post dated cheque their still wrong.
I'm sure we value you comments about the branch not willing to help you - but I trust you understand the reason why they were unable to help you.0 -

Hi first time posting.
I went into barclays today and opened isa`s for myself and my wife ,it took 15 minutes each no problems whatsoever .
Seems they have got there act together this time on the isa`s0 -
i am a bit confuse,is £3600 the maximum amount that can be transferred in this account?
thank you.
PS SORRY
just noticed the "Maximum deposit £3,600 per tax year" print0 -
Castrovalva,
As I stated in my first post I have no problem in going back on April 6th to open my account as I only live a mile away.
I do find that the reason is they can't be held responsible for the cheque in the interim but have been able to do so in the past couple of years.
Some will not bother going back if they are told this hence the reason why I posted this fact.
I have had delays for the past two years in opening these accounts and have not been put off going for a 3rd as I know it all gets sorted in the end and my interest is backdated to 06.04
The lady in my local branch (Laura at Bitterne in Southampton) was fine to me, as was I to her, so why some on this thread suddenly think I am anti BARC is beyond me.It's far better to be penny wise than pound foolish.

"Been to two branches of Barclays this morning to attempt to open an Golden ISA.
First one had signs up everywhere saying you needed to book a 45 minute appointment to open one.
At the other branch I saw one of their "customer service" people ( what a joke ! ) who again told me I need to book a 40 minute appointment. When I asked him why it was going to take 40 minutes to fill out a piece of paper he produced a booklet that we were supposedly going to have to fill in. One of the boxes was entitled " Tell us about your lifesyle". I pointed out to the guy that this had sod all to do with opening an ISA and that my lifestyle meant I didn't have time to spend answering questions that were none of their damn business.
I have just phoned their customer care unit ( freephone number available on www.saynoto0870.com ! ) and left them in no doubt about what I think of their useless organisation.
They have learned nothing in 3 years !
Natwest now have my £3600 and I can honestly say I will NEVER set foot in a branch of Barclays again. .1% just isn't worth the hassle !
AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS"
As a barclays employee we do have to encourage customers to undertake a full review when opening a golden isa.
Although not your concern, if my branch staff have a full diary of golden isa's for non customers or are not available for queries from existing customers the powers that be wouldnt be to pleased.
In my branch we are running appts for the golden isa from 3pm to 5pm in half hour slots. We have advertised this locally and it prevents customers having to wait for potentially hours like they did last isa season.
The new opening process means if something does go wrong you can be sure its a branch error rather than being lost in the internal mail e.t.c0 -
taking in post dated cheques can be a minefield
to be honest you really shouldnt be writing post dated cheques anyway for a whole variety of reasons.0 -
Dear room,
I recently opened a Barclays cash ISA account with £10 with the intention to top up the remaining balance of £3590 (annual allowance for 2008/2009). Shockingly the financial adviser had no clue as to wether i can do an internet transfer for the amount from my Lloys current account into this account. Could someone kindly advise me if you can, if not what is the best way to get that money transferred before 5 april2009.
thanks0
