Yup in that colour too its undoubtadly been part of either a specialist unit or unmarked traffic and designed for use in high speed pursuits.
Tbh the OP wasnt even done as the seller was pretty honesty, the OP has been completely stupid and should take the £80 and thank the seller for going well beyond what they needed too.
The actual mechanical faults listed arent even serious in the scheme of things or spend terms.0 -

TS stated that they understood you were told the car was in good mechanical condition - you were not. You were told it seems to be.
And Maintainance, and servicing doesnt prevent a car ever becoming faulty.
If it had major bangs and rattles why did you buy it? you were happy enough after a test drive.
You purchased the car and have no case. NO CASE.
And because you seem quite happy to waste everyone elses time and cash in a court because you tried to get a cheap deal and didnt even have the brains to get the car checked.
You should count yourself lucky you even got offered the £80.
Re Mikey, sound in the sellers opinion, this doesnt make it an open ended warranty, unless the OP can prove this was a lie - i.e they knew of signifcant mechanical failures making the car unroadworthy - then no case.
Some people need to realise if they spend peanuts they cannot expect brand new car quality.
Oh and being a former police car it was certainly well maintained, it was also likely thrashed at high speeds.
No, I was told it was in good mechanical condition, I was told by text message the car is "mint" and the seller does offer a returns policy!
I didn't expect a brand new car, I expected the crap bodywork, not a car that needs to be parked up.
It may have been thrashed at speeds, whilst in use by the police, but since they disposed of it it was granted a full MOT with no advisories, so the issues certainly weren't there then.
Besides, it is illegal to sell a car which is not roadworthy, and once it has had its MOT on Monday then there will be no doubt about that, and Trading standards will take it up.
You might not like it, but the fact of the matter is, even though private sales have little protection, they do have some, and both trading standards and consumer direct believe there is one to answer to.0 -

1) Mint -
1. A place where the coins of a country are manufactured by authority of the government.
2. A place or source of manufacture or invention.
3. An abundant amount, especially of money.
2) What you expected is not really relevant unless the sellers comments would lead you to undoubtadly think that. It is the case they didnt and you simply heard what you wanted to hear.
3) I suggest you look up what an MOT does. It provides that it is roadworthy at one moment in time - It doesnt guarentee or predict its mechanic or future condition
4) Can you prove the seller knew it wasnt roadworthy - prove beyond reasonable doubt?
5) TS and Consumer direct have been mislead by you who has spun what was said to suit your agenda and legisation. There was no guarentee of the cars mechanics or roadworthiness, and you have no proof at all you were missold, deceived or the seller knew of the faults and lied
All in all you have no case and are wasting peoples time and cash, including your own as you will be liable for court costs when the judge sends you packing back to your council estate on the bus.0 -

no its not, why do you keep saying this? and anyway in the eyes of the law the car is roadworthy, its taxed and MOT'd. a fault can develop at any time on a car.
you bought a lemon, admit it and get it fixed and then move on and enjoy filling up with petrol often....work permit granted!0 -
Sorry, have to withdraw from the conversation, have to go and cook fish fingers and spaghetti, have a few cans of cheap beer, and then go and sit on my doorstep with a cigarette in my dressing gown, dreaming of what I will do when my giro arrives..........
or do whatever council dwelling unemployed do!!!0 -

You *DO NOT* have any case what so ever, please save everyone’s time and just forget it. If the seller’s watching this thread – don’t give her the £80 quid – I know they say just give muggers your money if they ask but she’s not got a knife waved at you has she!!!?
The advert says "OTHER THAN THAT THE CAR IS SOUND" it doesn't say it's mechanically sound... it's a meaningless phrase which in no way suggests it's a perfect motor.
You saw it, you test drove it, you bought it, what did you think you’d get for a grand?? No seriously... have a look on autotrader? What similar mondeo can you get for £1000? Tell me!! The seller even said it was an ex police car – and they have a great reputation for taking care of their cars don’t they. :rotfl:
Ohh and BTW: Good luck selling the Rover which you bought to 'do up' six months ago:D:D
I just hope no-one comes begging you for a refund after you have sold it! Very possibly saying you've said how mechanically good the car seems....0 -

Oh, another member that has difficulty absorbing facts! The rover was bought A YEAR AGO! and it is not being solf as a roadworthy car, it has no MOT. Besides what relevance does that have to this post??
Other than that the car seems sound - what about is has no knocks or rattles?
Take a look on abay at what these cars are fetching, in good condition, not much above one that has crappy bodywork.
Why is there a need for me to reiterate that the CAR IS DANGEROUS, not as described and illegal to sell FACTS. Am I to assume by this you would feel comfortable selling a car that could hurt or even kill someone??????0 -

Where in your advert does it say the car isn't sold as roadworthy- all you say is that it just needs an exhaust for MOT...
Why didn't you pick up on all the "DANGER" of the car on your test drive?
Show me proof it's illegal to sell a car in this way please.
And when I sell a car I describe it honestly and let the buyer decide if they want to buy it, no-ones forcing you to buy them and it's not like it's a rare car, why didn't you buy one of the ones in 'much better condtion' you mention instead of going for one with poor bodywork?0 -

It says it has no MOT, and has been parked up for a year, by the very fact it has no MOT it is NOT roadworthy - that is common sence.
I did pick up on the funny steering, but was told it was normal for a V6 and I'd get used to it, and as i've not had one before why would I not believe this?
The proof that it is illegal is in the post above with an extract from the Road Traffic Act.
I bought it because it was less than a mile away, and I had sold my car that morning, and panel damage aside, it said the car was (once again) well maintained with no rattles or bangs from the engine. It has the leather interior and all the gadgets, so I figured that if I ignored the body panels for the money it seemed like a nicer car than the average 1.8 with cloth seats and nothing else, the bodywork was not such the issue (I admit I didn't expect it to be quite so bad once cleaned up, but hey)0
