Could the Call Rate Checker have another column to show the connection charge as this is now becoming a large part of a short call. I appreciate that access 08 numbers are dependant on the line provider you are using and these could just have a ‘*’ in that column and the connection charge could be seen against the line provider you are using i.e. BT would show 6.95p0

BEWARE - they only accept payment via CPA (Continuous Payment Authority) from credit or debit cards. As regulars will know, Martin warned way back in 2004 how dangerous CPAs can be.Could the Call Rate Checker have another column to show the connection charge as this is now becoming a large part of a short call. How time flies!Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Wrong provider – right rate!
The International Call Checker lists Primus Saver as the cheapest way to call to the Philippines.
Primus Saver rates are several times higher than the rate shown.
The rate shown can be obtained from Planet Talk Instant.0 -

The 0844 709 0011 number is a 'g11' (4p/minute) number from a BT residential landline (see HERE) and the per minute cost of using it cannot change (the price is fixed to the number). In fact, it's 3.915p/minute at the moment due to the current reduced rate of VAT.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. I think you may be confusing Primus Saver CPS service with the 4p/minute 0844 709 0011 gateway/dial through number shown on the MSE International CallChecker.
Thanks Heinz!
Yes, that’s the point it is confusing.
Planet Talk Instant list that number not Primus.
Its probably not important whose number it is as long as the MSE International call checker lists it.0 -
On a lighter note, has anyone noticed that the woman who does the announcements of call costs is the same woman on all the dial through services? Are they all run by the same company? Or is she making a fortune working for all these people?0

Some of the prompts are preloaded by the equipment manufacturer :-) That is why they all sound the same. Also, many instant dial through are provided by thge same company, but at different prices on different brands. On a lighter note, has anyone noticed that the woman who does the announcements of call costs is the same woman on all the dial through services? Well.. OFCOM give it to them...and OFCOM can't even be bothered to allocate a distinguishable range, say maybe 0741xxx IOM, 0742 Jersey etc.
Vodafone should also perhaps have inserted an annoucement that the number is not a standard UK number...
But as it stands..it is a mess...and user beware...I have just been bitten with international calling charges when I called a number that looked every bit like a UK mobile number, starting with 07781. I expected this call to be within my monthly inclusive allowance. In fact, this is a Channel Islands prefix. Since the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man are not part of the UK (or the EU for that matter) - they are Crown Dependencies - calls to such numbers are charged at international rates. (*)
What annoys me is that these islands are allowed to use the UK numbering system and yet calls to them are not classed as UK calls. This means there is no way to tell how much you are going to be billed, just by looking at the number. Ofcom ought to change that and give them their own country code with an international dialling prefix.
Anyway, to keep "on-topic" I would suggest the International Call Checker on this site should include the Channel Islands and Isle of Man.
(*) Charged at international rates at least by T-Mobile, O2 and Three. I have heard rumours that Vodafone charge UK rates for these - if that's true then I applaud Vodafone.0 -
Hi
Uk call checker says .2p in evening but talktalk list shows .49p.
Which is correct?
Thanks
