Not just my OH then, and in his case, not just bedding but pj trousers and work shirts too.

I think the shirts are the hardest to rescue as he's worn them all day before I notice the blood stain.

Oh yes, he gets it all over clothes too! Now I've learnt not to use hot water I might get somewhere...!

Do you soak them in saltwater?

How we do it at work[I'm a laundress], is put the stain in cold water then sprinkle salt on it, watch the salt turn pink, rinse off and repeat till salt stay's white, rinse then wash as normal, aslo work's if you get blood on the carpet and you'v got a carpet shampooer handy.hth.

I agree with soaking in cold water and salt. It really does make a difference.

I try to, sometimes it is too late and the stain is set and so he'll just have to wear the shirt under something while it wears out.
Inevitably he will choose that shirt for big meetings or other important occasions because he "forgets" :silenced:

just as the laundress says - dampen the stain with Cold water sprinkle on salt and when you see it isnt getting any redder, rinse off and sprinkle on more. or soak in Cold water to which you have added a cup of salt, rinse and wash in bio powder.

    try Napisan...

lets be serious, if it works on nappies, it's going to work on a blood stained shirt.:D

Are they 100% cotton, or a polycotton mix?

  • Well, I've soaked them overnight in salt water and they look exactly the same (had already got the bulk of the blood out before soaking but nasty brown rings left) but they're now in the washing machine at 30 degrees (coldest setting on my machine) using Bold 2in1 - hope that's bio, it's all I've got!

So we will see soon enough...At least if they are ruined I've learnt some lessons for next time -don't leave it too long, don't use hot water, soak it in salt...big sigh... :(

  • His saliva

BitterAndTwisted is right, saliva has digestive enzymes in it that break down blood. Spitting (gross I know) on the stain and leaving it to work and then washing it, works best if the spit is from the same person as the blood. Have also found putting lemon juice on it then drying in sunlight works, although you will then need to rewash it as the lemon juice can still be seen. Salt and cold water works brilliantly when fresh.
