The thing your friend has is an onion septic tank, alfie. The old cesspits were usually concrete or cement lined pits. Most of them are banned now.

Or it could be a sewage treatment thing like mine, which is straight up and down like an old septic tank concrete lined confusingly!

Here's a link to your evening's "Dealing with sewage in 1001 ways" read, Rozee :rotfl:

Is yours an electric or non-electric plant, LIR?

A trip to Folly Farm, however, means I'm now rather keen on the idea of alpacas... Rummer. Can you spin me a yarn with your new machine please?

As soon as I am confident, of course :D. There is quite a market for Alpaca fleece and from what I have seen so far people are totally charmed when they know the name of the animal their fibre has come from ;)

Right, holly ordered. If it is too few i might interplant next year with hedge roses or rugosas if not other hollies.

I wish we had got lots of hazel to interplant with in the hedge rows too. We have some nasty gaps. It will have to be autumn now.

We have a giant holly tree and it springs up in odd places around our garden too. It is beautiful and full of wildlife.

We had a choice here, and opted for electric. It is only a short run from the plant to the water run, but in a flood year it could make all the difference. The odd time off, e.g. In power cuts...is fine, and we left it a week after emptying to refill with water from washing machine and bath before returning it on. It doesn't pump on the electric all the time, a big releif as that was my main doubt about the electric system.

I thought i might have it as a hedge, but keep one at either end, or four or five along the length to grow into trees to be clipped into cones. Nice at christmas with lights on maybe? We will see how the hedge settles in. Nice thing about holly is we shouldn't be rushed into a decision :rotfl:

Ours is HUGE and sits in the corner of the garden, it does grow profusely and has to be tamed each summer to prevent it swiping people on the pavement on the way past!

You could plant hazel in the Spring - find a tree & take cuttings, stamp on them, put them in a bucket of water & wait for shoots then plant - same for willow.
