its past 9.30, its a saturday night and im talking cess pits and im home alone.....sad or what !!!0

didnt look like that !!!
Then it could have been a low-profile. Does it have a soakaway? If it doesn't it could be some form of treatment tank (probably non-electric or I think you'd have noticed the wiring).
We had an old cesspit when we first moved in here but we put the new onion in & had a proper soakaway dug along the hillside for, maybe, 200 yards. That also gave us a flat terrace which came in useful for the chicken sheds .......... the same sheds as mentioned earlier in the "picked up & chucked around by gales" post.
I'm not alone but am obviously also a saddo :rotfl:0 -
More liekly top notice the small pump house on the top....i can't see the wring for mine!
If it is a treatment thing, we were advised NOT to get the bigger size because of various things, including urdure viscosity and bacteria efficacy.....its better to empty them more often than go a size up apparantly. We have a 6-8 person one, the nest one up was ten to 12 people. I still think the bigger one would have been better for the uoltimate size of this house, but really i guess we will just make sure we empty it before family christmas gatherings or big parties!0 -
:rotfl::rotfl:I know nothing about cesspits (nor do I have any need to know) but here I am on a Saturday night reading about them :rotfl::rotfl:Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

Hehehe LIR - I didn't mean alfie would see the wiring now but, as she knows what the tank looks like, I presumed she had seen it before it all went in the ground or was around when it was being installed.
We had to have the large onion to cover for the house & 6 cottages. Since we retired it certainly doesn't need an annual empty.0 -

Lol, no it wouldn't . Our septic tanks always have needed regular emptying sadly. I am resonanly good. I do like to splash leach around occasionally. But the treatment tanks are slightly different in waste handling due to efficiency aiui. Tbh....only repeating what i was told.....i really didn't care too much so long as it was unobtusive and works, and it is and it does!:D0 -

Yes, the hotel in the valley had to have a treatment plant put in about 20 years ago because it's next to a river. Theirs, of course, is a large commercial thing which cost a total fortune. It seems to do the trick most of the time but there have been times (normally during very busy summers) when it struggles a bit & the Environment Agency can be seen madly testing the river water. Mind you, anyone passing the place can tell when it isn't working quite right .......... phew  As I said, though, it takes a real punishment from numbers (OK think about that one) of visitors.

I would love to be in the position where these things were relevant to my life, however apart from winning the lottery it is unlikely to happen. In the meantime I am happy following your journeys and learning all I can on the wayTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0
