Alfie, I'm really sorry. IMH's poem tipped me over the edge & I shed a few tears for Barney...
It made me think about my own animal losses. I've only ever had one dog (this far) as I never felt I could replace Inca when she died - and that was over 15 years ago now.0 -
Aflie.........:grouphug: so,so sorry about Barnie. I bet he will be hugely missed ....I cant remember now, how old was he?
Its awfull, as animals become your family and life....and they are just like your children......a pain in the @rse on times but you love them more than anything....
IMH what a beautifull poem.....
going to make another cup of tea and have a baker buy chocolate cupcake in memory of Barnie.... i am sure if he was anything like the horses/ponies i had when i was alot younger he would have quite easily 'nicked' it from me and scoffed it....lol...Work to live= not live to work0 -
Coille, i could look at yur pictures all day long. Stunning.
This week we have had a line or two of snow on the Big Hill and i pointed it out to alfie and said i try and imagine its a bit like choilles view, but of course it really is not.
Solid frost this morning. The horses have ices whiskers, iced eyelashes, ice on their manes......but its beautiful, dry and clear and everything sparkles.0 -
Dear Alfie, so sorry to hear about Barney. Hugs to you from Liverpool.
Remember how some of the branches on the poplar try at the end of our garden broke in the gales after Christmas, and the University had it re-polled? Thursday morning they were burning some of the brushwood that came off it, so John went out to say hello. They told him that the tree is really rotten, much worse seen from their side than ours. So the tree surgeon will be back at some stage to take it down completely. We're hoping we can persuade him to top some of the holly bushes that are getting a bit tall and straggly too, so they grow into more of a hedge. We'll see!0 -
Just managed a quick session (o-er missus) in the garden. DS1 has trimmed the hedge I wanted to do last weekend, sadly no bonfire as it wouldn't light. I'll leave it for a few weeks and let it dry out a bit. I've decided to set myself a mini challenge, I need £200 for the matting and to re-vamp the hen pen. I know its free listing on ebay this weekend but not going to get chance as got to take DS1 to college tomorrow, but I *know* I can do it. We've an ebay shop as a business so no reason why I can't dig out my user name and get cracking, apart from being lazy and very good at procrastinating. Also need to find a mannequin for the show room.

I am developing a bit of a fibre obsession and have been spending the last few days reading about different breeds of sheep.
In fact I have got so carried away that I can see myself in a few years sitting on the porch of my small holding spinning yarn while my flocks of rare sheep are quietly grazing and my naturally died yarns are drying on the post and rail fence
Oh for those of you (brain like a sieve) who mention ed that you didn't know what to do with your fleeces there are people on Ravelry that I am sure would like to give them a home. Might bring in a few pounds?Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
thank you for all your thoughts re barney.
ITSMEHONEST......thankyou that was the sweetest poem and im going to copy it out on wood and hang it on the field gate [where he stood waiting for his grub]0 -

Crikey it's been cold, last night/today and tonight. The, admittedly, large diesel engined car, but with a one year old HD battery, just didn't want to start this morning, I eventually got it going.
It was dry as can be everywhere, but with an inch of hoar frost on everything, which started blowing off and looked like a very pretty snow later in the day.
The woodburner's been on most of the day and for the first time ever I think, the heating has been on a little to warm up the rest of the house as well! We had sunshine through the windows as well and it seemed to make little difference.
Although my outside thermometer is on the blink, I reckon it was -15 easy last night, our bedroom was 7 this morning, it's been lower than that, but not since we've had heating installed.
Luckily I saw it coming and grabbed the remaining squash in store and brought them inside, my one remaining turks turban type had rotted from underneath, but all the smaller ones are fine and I'll make them into a soup tomorrow, by roasting them, which will also warm up the place a little.
The leeks and parsnips that were planning to be used tomorrow, will have to stay in frozen soil for the moment.
Still haven't found a supplier of poultry I'm happy with. :wall:
Still haven't found my electric seed heater.
I hope the cold weather hasn't caused many problems to those of you that spend more time outside than me.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0
