Sorry, I'll calm down now.
whenevr i get new birds, i put them in an ark close to the free rangers so they get used to the sounds and sights around them for a week or so.it also gives me time to check thier health..... i then put them into the others house at night and then they wake up together but are so keen to get out they cant be ars*d to squabble.....:D
at my friends our others are in thier arks and we just open it up and let them out for the day and they go back in at night. but only if you are sure its safe for them. we use the mesh electric fencing for others. you could put up mesh with arks inside and then you can move it around for fresh "grazing":)
go to a sale/auction of birds just to see what breeds there are and what they look like size etc as books/pics can be deceiving.... its very interesting to see the varieties available, it will also give you an insight into prices if you get a catalogue and note selling prices, bearing in mind different colors of same breed can vary vastly !! just keep your hands DOWN....:D [pot, kettle, black]
if you are looking for an ark try your local FREEADS on line first. you can get some real bargains.0 -
Davesnave, Rozee, hope the litter problems resolves, well done Alfie!
Anyhow time for another challenge. And for once maybe useful to those of you wanting to maximise profit from your cows after slaughter.
What is this? Do you blow on this? (missing a mouthpiece?) Is it a wind instrument?? Cow horn trumpet? Shafor? Help!!0 -
Alfie, the cats must have heard you and i tutting at their allowing that mouse to stay in the kitchen. They got it today. I'll give my cabinets a good disinfect now and put some of the tupperware packed food back in.0

I know. Keep the excitement because it will get you through the build etc.
Over the summer there will be loads of local shows. have a day out with the kids and check out the exhibits. Talk to people who own them but strictly, strictly keep you hands in your pockets and out of your wallet.
It is time to learn.
There is one type of duck I quite fancied from reading about it and had seen the occasional bird at shows. Heard a massed choir at the show in September and know I could not live with them, nor could my neighbours.
Oh well.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Glorious here again - how weird. Moving wood & tidying outdoors with all the hens pecking away at uncovered worms - great company.0

Rhiwfield is it necessarily missing a bit? Does that piece of metal vibrate, like a reed?0

rhiwfield - I sold one very similar but not with that mouthpiece affair - look at hunting horns - It's an ox horn.0

it was the cream off the cake that did it !!:rotfl:0 -
I would say enjoy the markets and shows, but don't purchase poultry there until you really know what you're doing.
Personally, I wouldn't touch half the stock I see in Hatherleigh with a barge pole, and with the other half, I'd still prefer to see the set-up they came from first. If you buy from a breeder's premises you'll know how the birds were kept.
Rhiwfield, that second mouthpiece must have another bit or it would be vibrating against the player's lips, surely? A bit ticklish and likely to dull the sound. Ah, but what do I know?
Thanks buttons are being eaten again! Alfie? choille? Rummer?
EDIT: They're back, already...Sorry for jumping to conclusions!:o0
