how far is the nearest scrap yard to you ?? are you sure some wouldnt fit in my trailer?? OR fill a horse box??

Some would fit in the trailer, perhaps the heap from the garden? The scrap yard is in the next town up...not far....

But for goodness sake, don't come up here in a horse box .....i would refuse to risk putting metal carp in it! i have visions of you borrowing your freinds super smart box to fill with my barbed wire:rotfl::rotfl:

I wonder if stitching witch still reads? I wanted to know if the second hand and vintagy stye furniture shop on the one way system round the back of the market square is still there......

I have good news, dh is going to be on a better working schedule in london fr a year. He might even get every friday afternoon off, plus some flexitime. We are really excited. I have been thinkipng of jobs i can do myself and think buying some paint for the silage clamp and barn walls is imminant, as soon as spring hits i wanna be painting.

It will soon be time to clear the backlogue of poop from the winter grazing......that is hours and hours of work...its just been too wet and mild to get the barrows out there, so have a huge build up.

I am hoping to buy some ask saplings next week, and maybe some hazels for hedge infilling too.
  • Well, not so wrongly probably with the scare stories. While the place was empty the manhole covers were taken and as i cross posted with you, we have some stuff of value which is effectipvely sitting rotting and tbh a 'motovated reclaimer' might feel obliged to be lightfingered. We get a lot of people 'having a look' and i should perhaps be wary aout inviting more onto myself. I am just fed up of junk.

We had a couple of things (like one of the stone troughs) disappear before we moved in. Someone (& we bet we know who - the area loveable rogue :D) was probably doing a little trading on the side. I guess it's different when you've lived somewhere for a good few years & they know you well.
We had to have someone. There was too much really heavy stuff for us 2 old crocks to move ourselves. :rotfl:

:rotfl: You'll all scare the wits out of LIR. Are you all talking about reputable clearing companies or just some guy with a van?
The guys I had are licensed & have been in business for years.
They'd never stay in business in a close-knit area like this if they were looking for other pickings. Word travels fast if anyone is dodgy.
Well if you know someone who has done a decent job for someone else, then fine. Two people even better.

Otherwise, I think you could be letting yourself into a whole lot of helplessness.

I know the local scrap metal merchants round here and tbh, they are one step clear from most of the scum they take the metal from.

Oh they talk a good talk and they say what they want, but I see with my eyes what I need to know.

I have been to many scrap metal merchants in my time, my jobs mean I have had plenty of stuff to send to them.

    My conclusions.
They say whatever you want to hear on the phone, when you get there, it will be different.
They don't care who they deal with, whatever comes in, is whatever comes in.
Most of the folk that take away scrap metal for free are travellers and have no respect for anyone who isn't a traveller. For them, to steal from you, means nothing.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.

These guys are registered Domestic Waste Carriers - they take all sorts - not scrap metal guys. I did say that they cost in my first post about it.
Mind you, scrappies are going to find it tougher if they have to show ID to the merchants

When we had the outbuildings converted the builders got rid of the various metal stalls & crushes for us. They even cleared all the hay from the loft. Builders also require the paperwork to dispose of stuff nowadays but ours would still be able to do it as they have the required papers. I should think yours will have, too, LIR

Thanks rhiwfield & Alfie - I usually wait 4 days & then do an unpaid thing with ebay, but as I just thought I'll relist as the thing went too cheap & I gave her way ample time & loads of emails to wake her up, bu oh, you can't win some times.

Have a load on ebay at the mo & hope to get some clear out as I've dragged a lot of stuff out of boxes to photo, measure, wash, iron etc - I look like one of those - well let's just say folks who are living in a small space surrounded by years of rubbish! Which I am in a way.
Even the cats are organising a petition & going on a protest march about the state of the place.
Well hey ho must go to my scratcher............
  • Alfie my pages looking doff too with wide sides..

LIR i totally agree with lotus.... we had scrap cars outside the house, and once the scrappies knew there were there, they just kept on coming back, week after week, we even caught one guy putting my trike in the back of his van:eek:..

what is the old saying out of sight out of mind....so if the scappies dont know its there, they will not try and get it from you.

I am lying on the sofa, and using the arm of the chair as a pillow, and the cat is on the arm of the chair too, snoring in my ear:rotfl:

never mind only 11 months today for christmas:eek::D

Come and visit next wednesday, but lets not do the scrap. One of us will do ourselves an injury.....or ignite the existing ones. You can see my wall, and the cheese room that will be the kitchen, now that it has no ceiling.:D

Mice. In the kitchen and the feed room on the same day. The poor feral cat as only just carked it and immeaidately an invasion. I want to know what the other ferals are doing, besides getting fat and glossy on eggs. My two house cats are usually excellent hunters, but have spent the last while under the duvet hiding from the cold weather.
