can't keep up at the mo.
I'm away to re-light the choille 'coming back of the light' bonfire. Stuff is so wet it sizzled & went out.
I'll stagger back orff down there & try an have a burnin'
fabulous bright. Cold, orangey day here.0 -
Heavens, choille, 15th January already? I nearly forgot. Not really allowed to have bonfires here (too close to town) but will light a candle to celebrate 'choille-day'. :j0

Choille I will get a candle burning in your honour
Been a fabulous day today! I FINALLY got myself out into the garden and made a start on getting things organised for spring.
The beds, raised and otherwise, are so badly over grown that it is difficult to distinguish them from the grass . The greenhouse also took a real beating over the winter and we have lost sections as well as individual panes of glass.
Today I started to weed the raised beds and gave the greenhouse a tidy ready to scrub it down before planting. Also dragged in all the seeds trays to give them a really good scrubbing in preparation.
Does anyone know of a reasonably priced supplier of wooden greenhouse staging? I have some old metal stuff out there at the moment but I would really like it in wood.
Oh and I did post a seperate thread about this and got no responses, does anyone know a good supplier of asparagus crowns?Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
College, I had forgotten the date today! I have just lit the wood burner and a candle for chilled day.
We've been working on our pear support structure. It's insane. Next time Alfie comes here I think she will roar with laughter. We have got the first upright in place, all that needs to be done is the others screwed in, they have eyes etc in them now, but we ran out of light for putting them up. The hilarious thing is two fold. First.y they are tall.....I 've allowed for ten feet of height. Fwiw, I think now maybe that is too high..
Secondly, I tout the wood would look a bit odd, just sticking up in the air, so I have found some bird houses to top them with. It looks deranged . Just how I like things.0 -
I waited, but it's no good for a Choille Day bonfire here, as the east wind would blow the smoke into the barn conversions.
Pity, because we have a pile of stuff to go in addition to the two ready-made pikes of blackthorn in the field, left behind when it turned so wet.
The wind won't go around until Wednesday or Thursday, when we should be good to go.
Rummer, it's always good to buy locally if you can, but it looks like asparagus crowns are mainly produced in southern England, so your choices may be limited. Buying on-line can be a pig in a poke, but I liked the look of these people, who seem to have been around for a good while:

Sorry, no idea about staging. Maybe think about trestle tables... proper ones not the flimsy wallpaper pasting ones.0 -

Flip is that time of the year again choille, it has gone sooooooooo quick.. sorry will not be able to light a fire, but i will light a fag:D
Alfie..... lol..... People have the wrong impression of bikers..... we are not nasty pasties... we are allways nice and polite.... unless you are another arsey biker who over steps the mark.....lol...
Rummer.. i managed to wrangle some old dexion shelfing, its great, its a bit like mechano sp? so hubby has made a sort of shelving that my seed trays fit in lovely.
also what about the plastic type garage shelving or asking on freecycle for those outdoor cheap plastic greenhouse things, as normally the plastic covering goes brittle or rips etc, the plastic shelving in them are great for using in the greenhouse..Work to live= not live to work0 -

Thanks for that Dave, I have emailed my location and the space I have available to get their advice on type and number.
I specifically want (nice) wooden staging for the greenhouse as a wee treat to myself this yearTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
We have an Alton greenhouse with cedar staging etc.
It may be worth seeing if your nearest Alton stockist has a sale or any offers on, Rummer. I think Alton usually has a sale this time in the year.0 -

It's silly. The spellchecker thing is meant to clean up posts like mine, not make them worse. I want to switch it off but don't know how.:mad:0
