Thanks for all your replies about the supervision. I'm beginning to be convinced that it's worth the cash, We have 3 very young children, a business to run, no family support and a lot of external work to do on the land potentially. I'm hoping that, like many things building related in this market, there will be keen pricing for the service.

I'm convinced though expensive our architect earns his fee. He isn't local, but that 's why putting effort in to finding right team of builders and making sure communication is between them without Dh and I muddling the waters. If we'd done this before I'd go it alone, but we haven't, so I want them sorting it. He comes and visits regularly, and I think by the end of this his petrol will cost more than the fee:eek:. Closer to hand we have the structural engineer, who also knows the builders from other jobs. So three professionals should come up with better solutions and planning than enthusiastic amateurs. Seeing the revisions they have had to make shows me how badly wrong we could have gone with things that have come up.

Got more hedge done, but not finished. About two thirds through. There was a light rain which we thought was gonna stay but it passed. We could have kept going, but it'll keep till next weekend.
  • Janiepopps.......ooooooo i have missed you... i just read your pm. will reply laters..

I am beaming like a cheshire cat now..... so glad you are here.... PLEASE dont disappear again, i really did miss you on the other forum....

If you read the thread.. you will know that i nearly had land.... just under 20 acres...got the mortgage lined up and when it was time to sign.... it didnt feel right, and with a few pitfalls on the way.. it felt as though they were signs not for me to go through with it...

This year i am making the most of bulk buying genuine offers and whoopsied/reduced food etc.

Have even thought of trying to attempt to see where the land lies( EXCUSE THE PUN) with the m.i.l again and see if i started to clear her garden AGAIN if it would work out this time...but again i might run the risk of doing all the hard work ( or paying to have it all cleared like last time) and her then moaning and changing her mind again...

    We will see........what happens.....lol....

No, I haven't managed the whole thread - yet! Last I heard your MIL's big garden was a goer and you were getting in folk to clear it. So sorry it didn't work out as planned x

I was chuffed to see you still heading towards the goal though :D

I've been out this morning digging thistles while the ground is still recovering from the last lot of pigs, it is SO soft and easy to dig atm (which is weird for January!) Also managed to fence an area off to keep the chooks out whilst the grass recovers and we can start planting (soon, hopefully?) the first lot of seeds.
Have I mentionend how excited I am...?

Thank you all for the kind welcomes, gonna go put the kettle on and start at the begining. I may be some time... :D

oh goodness, it's not possible is it?;)

The ground is odd, but we're just about to go back to the beginning of our grazing rotation because the grass has all grown back. If it were dry I'd chuck 'em out on the summer grazing already, but that's wet around the gate.

The frogs have suddenly turned up en masse today.
It's quite late for them here which, given the mild weather we've had, is strange.
The ponds are seething & they're really noisy little so-&-so's. If they were human I'd be banging on their bedroom wall ;):D

Dave - What's all this I hear about you holding an illegal rave last night? ;) :rotfl:

The toads normally move in during February around here.
We can always tell when it's Feb from all the squashed ones on the lanes _pale_

My OH saw a fledgling that had fallen out of a nest on his walk in the wildlife park. I asked him what species but his reply (a small brown thing) wasn't too enlightening. Anyway, it seems pretty early for baby birds doesn't it?
