Today is the day I am actually going to get out into the garden, think I will tackle the raised beds and the greenhouse today. Not seen the greenhouse since the end of the summer so I'm thinking it may be a bit :eek:Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

heres a conondrum [cant spell it!]
no smoking in the work place right !
smoking areas outside provided outside workplace. one man trying to give up uses
the nicotine only replacement cigarettes [plastic] that lets out a vapour when "smoked".he doesnt want to stand with the smokers outside but could go elsewhere as plenty of other places to go. he sits in the office puffing away during work time. he is asked not to. he says he wants to give up cigarettes ...........??
i see this [as a smoker] as a negative way to give up .it is after all pure nicotine... if you cannot smoke during work hours then why the need to have/use this replacement during work hours? it also visually makes others working there uncomfortable.....
as yet there is no proof this "vapour "is harmless....
is this fair to ask him to stop using it during work hours ??
i should be in bed but cant sleep.....
Morning
As the electronic cigarettes do not contain tobacco they are not covered by the legislation. However, they aren't risk free themselves.

This is probably going to be one of those grey areas that nobody knows exactly where they stand until someone tests it in law.
Hello & welcome janiepopps
Misty here this morning.0 -
I thought I'd replied this morning saying welcome to janiepops but cannot see it now? Am I going mad? To repeat, horses are naked today. Very old horse is, for the first time ever, porky. We,be only used the big bales so far this winter which, while great for my liveries and the horses and in deed the land is a pain for me. It's last years hay, we still have a barn full and while it's better for the horses this year, and fine for most, better still for ponies next year, it's value plummets now. It's worth less than it cost me to make it. A steep learning curve indeed, have to think about that. Baling costs here are huge and because I cannot shift big bales I could sell. So. Do I cut and small bale this year for sale, at risk of throwing more money away? Or swap grass for favours or what. Difficult decisions ahead.
It's super to see the horses naked and shining it in the sun. Less good to see how much winter work hasn't been done because it never really was winter, and we missed autumn with dh's crummy work thing, and now the spring work heaps up before we,ve had time to do anything.
Has anyone seen barefoot trees in the cheap shops yet this year? If the weather perks up from this point it's going to be, seasonally, if not by the Callander, late to plant.
We're off now to try and finish that stretch of hedge removal, then could get a row of trees in pronto!0 -

Our fuschia is still flowering too, though finally looking a bit bedraggled! Also have a campanula that hasn't stopped flowering all winter, and the early camellia is flowering its socks off. Just been out and snipped a bloom to bring in as DD2 and SiL and GrandTwins are coming for lunch. I don't expect it to last long inside, though we don't keep the kitchen diner heated at all - have to go and hang out of the door to smoke
so the heat would be wasted!
Last years lobelias are still green in pot out front too. They were rather poor specimens as I didn't pot them on enough before planting. It was an awkward spring because the house was still being worked on. I'm hoping to do better this year, can't wait to get some tomatoes going!
Welcome Janipopps! Nice to have another new person on the thread.0 -
Thanks for all your replies about the supervision. I'm beginning to be convinced that it's worth the cash, We have 3 very young children, a business to run, no family support and a lot of external work to do on the land potentially. I'm hoping that, like many things building related in this market, there will be keen pricing for the service.0

Sorry, too many pantos and too little sleep. Welcome Janipopps and anyone else I've inadvertently missed.
Money is tight out there, after Crimbo, the sales, price rises and redundancies
Never seen so many Ebay watchers with so few bids!
Like most of you, really noticing how the garden hasnt gone properly dormant, honeysuckle and clematis showing spring growth, roses still in flower and even a few toms left in the GH.
Car boot sellers sparse this morning, sold a fair bit of treen and linen so not too bad.0
