We sort of grew into it. Dave :rotfl:
Our first job after moving here was to convert all the main outbuildings. We were lucky to find a good builder who was very good at running backward & forward to us checking that things were OK & getting things ordered well in advance. We eventually had a veritable army of workers on site but the job was done on time.
Among the army were members of a building family who were quite young at the time but a couple of years later when we wanted another project done we had them & have used them ever since. So we've watched them grow in age, size & skills. They've worked for us for over 20 years now but I still keep a grip on what's happening :rotfl:

Seller phoned again last night to confirm that they have found a property they want to buy. I'm still a bit unsure and think I'm hankering after 'the one that got away'. Trouble is DS1 is 2 miles away from his job here and doesn't want to move, it would mean chauffeuring him till he passes his test. DD1 is just starting to spread her wings and the other 2, I think would be ok with the move.

This time last year I would've been jumping for joy but I'm not. As you can see from my siggy we are still in the process of shifting a shed load of debt and I'm finding it a bit scary at the thought of getting nearly 10 times that amount again. We aren't getting any younger and a holiday once a year to warmer climes is also appealing. Decisions, decisions.

DS1 is at college on Monday and it was looking like I'd have to go on my own (apart from ds1) and spend the day by myself, all the usual friends (victimns) were busy. OH hes secretly changed shifts, as he knew I wasn't looking forward to it. So I think we're off to explore Keswick for the day.

OH is getting the showroom ready for re-opening on Tuesday and is looking forward to the coming season.

It's a big step, lucielle, so it's understandable that you have a few nerves/reservations.
Only you & yours can decide what's right for you.
At the moment, given our weather, I'd be siding with the holiday in warmer climes..... you definitely can't count Kendal in that! :rotfl:

    there are eggs everywhere...!!!
the silkies with the 8week old brood are sitting again !, the "band" are laying like crazy and trying to sit ! and the [what we call the bluebell chooks cos the whole area goes blue when they are out...the bluebells that is :rotfl:] have never stopped laying, tho not full throttle at the mo...

have i had any eggs ...NOPE :( my chooks saunter round and laying an egg is alien to them...
ive got a true pair of ducks...eggs ?? ...NOPE not one in 3 years !!

im going to have the 8 silkies here, will have to see how many hens there are ! just my luck there will be ONE...:rotfl:

heres a conondrum [cant spell it!]

no smoking in the work place right !

smoking areas outside provided outside workplace. one man trying to give up uses
the nicotine only replacement cigarettes [plastic] that lets out a vapour when "smoked".he doesnt want to stand with the smokers outside but could go elsewhere as plenty of other places to go. he sits in the office puffing away during work time. he is asked not to. he says he wants to give up cigarettes ...........??

i see this [as a smoker] as a negative way to give up .it is after all pure nicotine... if you cannot smoke during work hours then why the need to have/use this replacement during work hours? it also visually makes others working there uncomfortable.....
as yet there is no proof this "vapour "is harmless....
is this fair to ask him to stop using it during work hours ??

i should be in bed but cant sleep.....
  • Morning all, been curtain twitching on here for a while and thought I'd be brave and come and say Hi!

I live in Cornwall on 30 acres (mostly currently let out as grasskeep) with chooks, ducks, ferrets and pigs & turkeys at different times of the year. Big grassy (and muddy :o ) area with large pond is being transformed this year according to permaculture principles, with chicken forage being the biggest element of the planting. Really excited about it. I'm not a brilliant gardener tbh so love idea of planting up an expanse of perennial and self seeding annuals and just letting them got on with it. And if it keeps my feed bill down just 10% then I'll be more than happy.

Anyways, nice to 'meet' you all :D

Morning chaps, as I sit in bed typing this, I've managed to open the curtains and it looks ok out there. I might even venture into the garden today! Just for the record DS1 goes to college in Cumbria, hence the day in Keswick, we live on the North East side.

  • Janiepopps.......ooooooo i have missed you... i just read your pm. will reply laters..

I am beaming like a cheshire cat now..... so glad you are here.... PLEASE dont disappear again, i really did miss you on the other forum....

If you read the thread.. you will know that i nearly had land.... just under 20 acres...got the mortgage lined up and when it was time to sign.... it didnt feel right, and with a few pitfalls on the way.. it felt as though they were signs not for me to go through with it...

This year i am making the most of bulk buying genuine offers and whoopsied/reduced food etc.

Have even thought of trying to attempt to see where the land lies( EXCUSE THE PUN) with the m.i.l again and see if i started to clear her garden AGAIN if it would work out this time...but again i might run the risk of doing all the hard work ( or paying to have it all cleared like last time) and her then moaning and changing her mind again...

    We will see........what happens.....lol....
