Some heartwarming snippets:
- I sell a lot on ebay, but recently got postage badly wrong on US bound item. I gulped and bore the loss. US buyer just mailed me most of the difference. Not necessary but a lovely gesture.
- I buy on Ebay too, but recently bought far too cheaply cos no other bidder. In the recent past a seller had refused to go through with a similar transaction, this seller will complete even though I asked if he was sure. Honour to him, as well as some jars of DW's preserves to say thanks.
- And just read about a sadly departed neighbour, who taught me most of what I know about wildlife (and our SSSI). It was in the local Wildlife Trust newsletter that they had received a £290,000 bequest in his will for reserve acquisition.

We have holly coming up beneath the birches - birds have brought it in which is nice to see the cycle of the wood.
Berberis agree - loads of different ones. You get Fire thorn with nasty spikes I think. Gorse - I could send you that down! Rogusa Rose - I've got that going by raiding some that had escaped onto the banking down the road - grown largish now after a couple of years & the flowers - The smell of a late Summer's evening - wonderous. You just haul the runners out & jab it into the ground, stamp it in with yer heel & chuck some hen muck on it - voila! The hips are huge & good for the birds. I have a rather gorgeous wild ish rose - pink & white flowers - 4/5 petals per flower, but the foliage is a darkish plum colour - really striking - could send you that too - easy to get sprouting. Had to prune mine a couple of times. It's still over 5ft after only a few years.
Blackthorn - slow growing.
Gosh it's blowing an absolute gale.0 -
Lovely signs there - LOL.
rhiwfield these gestures are lovely - warms the heart.0 -
Couldn't resist those thanks buttons again - Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm0

At the Farmers' Market yesterday I met a farmer/butcher who offered to kill, pluck and dress chickens for £2.50 each, whenever he's doing some of his own.
I have no idea if that's 'good' or not, but I can't imagine it being much less anywhere else, and this chap's set-up seems ethically sound. This is just a thought if we decide to raise some table birds later. We'd only be eating them ourselves or selling to family & friends.0 -

Actually, not silly at all, alfie.
I've known farmers who were convinced they didn't get their own meat back from certain abattoirs.
Plucking particularly is a pain in the butt but you would know exactly what you were getting if you DIY, Dave.0 -
