Poor you. Sounds appalling.
I've had a crappy day too. Spilt 6 pints of milk over the back of the camper van on the way back from dropping my mum off at the station. Suspect it's under the flooring so gonna have the sell of sour milk to contend with for god knows how long now0 -
good luck at the dentish in the morning. Sounds far too bad for a spot of clove oil0

Oh Alfie, I do feel for you with your poorly tooth! Hope dentist can sort it out FAST! Hugs from Liverpool0

:rotfl::rotfl: oh he will thank me for that ,scrambling around in high winds and mud trying to measure them!! not vital, just curious
my minis average 28 to31 inches [7-8hh] ruby i reckon is about 13.2 to 14hh as a yearling so think she may make 14.2 to 15hh at a push . poor old barney is 15.2 but we think this winter will take its toll on him .hes at least 28/29yrs old . i "rescued" him with a horrific hoof injury 7 years ago. they said he was 21/22 then... his hoof was virtually split in half up through the hoof and through his heel.and had been left unattended to. he was a dressage/show horse in his prime.... BUT with staples and TLC hes ok now.:) grumpy old moo tho... love him just the sameNo, the OH is a great believer in "No point getting old if you don't get artful". He'll just take the rule out each time he goes until they get interested enough to come right up to him.
Actually I'll be interested in their heights mtself. I know minis should be less than 34" & pedigrees less than 42"(?) so we'll be know if our old boys still fit the bill. They're are in their mid 20s now.
Urgggh - Barney's injury sounds horrid. Do they know what might have originally caused it?
Our old donkey was in her 40s when we got her, complete with trap. She went on for years & years, bless her. We never used the trap as our hills were really a bit too much for an old girl like her. The trap gradually fell apart but the full leather collar & tack must still be kicking around somewhere. If I can track it down I may crack out the saddle soap & see if I can flog it.
Your tooth sounds like torture. Hope it's soon fixed or you'll e getting the farrier to use his tons on it.0 -

i used to have a donkey called STAVROS..:D
i got him as a foal to keep my welsh cob yearling company. they were inseperable !!:o he would eeh ore non stop when i took the cob out riding till we were out of sight then start again BEFORE we were in sight coming back ?? everyone knew when i was going out/returning ....:D i had to have my darling beautifull palomino cob put down at 21yrs old when he fell [running round in snow !]and damaged his hind leg badly . stavros mourned him and died 6months later, [only being 20yrs old]even tho i had another pony with them aswell ,he was inconsolable.
it was after this pony died at 30yrs old that we ended up with 6 mini's when we just looked for ONE to keep old barney company....;) plus rubes !:D
im sure you are getting the drift of what happens here when faced with a "CHOICE" of animals....doesnt work so we end up getting them all !!:D0 -

When I was a kid someone stole our car and spilt milk in it and my parents were GUTTED when it was recovered. Honestly, we never got the smell out entirely

Strange how animals can pine, isn't it.
Our mini was to replace the sister of the gelding we still have. She was born with deformed hips. My then 12 year old son found her dead one morning. She'd rolled & twisted her gut which was always on the cards with her deformity.
The gelding went into total freefall. He wouldn't eat & I was seriously worried that he'd shortly be following his sister to the paddock in the sky.
Luckily it was local pony Fair time so we went along & came back with the mini stallion. They've been firm buddies ever since.
The mini, being entire, likes to think he's Numero Uno & tries to wind the gelding up to play Charge of the Light Brigade which sometimes works. Most of the time the gelding tends to act like the wise old man, ignores the mini & just keeps on grazing. Once in a while mini pushes his luck & then he gets a sharp reminder, from whichever end is nearest, who's really the boss
Yea, we used to end up with all sorts of livestock unwanted by others, too. As we got older that petered out, luckily. No more up at the crack of dawn every day to feed & water the troops :cool:0 -
There's nothing worse than toothache, alfie, so you have my sympathies too, although a really big shot of whatever you fancy would probably be more use. In fact, have two!:beer:
While the morning was lovely the weather wasn't brilliant after 2pm, but it didn't actually rain, so we managed a fair bit more hedge clearing, spurred-on by the absence of a certain neighbour.:D His canines (sorry alfie!) were almost silent, even when the folk across the road had a delivery lasting 10 minutes, so it's his presence that makes a real difference.
I suppose I've cleared about 60' of stream bank now. Doesn't sound much, but when all the small trees and bushes have to be lugged out over the top of an 6' bank, through the bushes/trees on the top and then over a fence, it's understandable. Mostly it's blackthorn, but we can still get sloes for sloe gin on the roadside hedge. That's a completely different ball game and I'm not convinced we should do much with it, bearing in mind how much is thrown out of cars nowadays.
OK, so you are at 500' and planting a small copse next to your garden, as a natural windbreak, as an attractive backdrop and as a transition zone into the fields. Which trees would you include?
No good crying over spilt milk rozee, but I'd get to it, if possible, sooner rather than later!:eek:0
