  • Not yet, though I suppose I should do. I've had egg problmes (first time thi year) since early summer, but they laid through all last winter (contrarians!).

Gosh, you're lucky. Ours petered out when the days got shorter but there was always the odd one. Isn't there alwys the ODD one? :)
The chooks, geese and peacocks, all live in one house ATM, o I need to let the geese and peas out early, but start keeping the chooks in an hour or two I think (easier said than done..).

Yes, not ideal for any of you. That may be one reason why the birds lay away.
also I have two boys in there (not ideal but the young one is gorgeous and if he weren't a hybrid I'd certainly be using him: beautiful beautiful quality) so have to get at least one of them out early so they don't bicker (will have to make a decison about what to do with him before spring, as I think we'll have WW3 here otherwise!).

We had the odd WW3 as we often ended up with 3 or more cockbirds. It's Murphy's Law that when a clutch hatches out there's more males than females, isn't it.
We had one bantam cockbird who would take on birds twice his size. He lost an eye fighting so we had him sleeping in a tea-chest for weeks until it healed, let him out & he went straight into battle & damaged the other eye. We really should have done the dirty deed then & there but we'd developed a bit of a soft spot for him. When he could see out of his eye again he spent the rest of his life following the OH around like a dog :D
He still had the odd fight but outlived all his generation plus some of the next.

I hope you get a good deal from your farrier for cutting all those toenails!
When we had the menagerie we used to have the ponies, donkey & 8 goats lined up for our farrier. It looked like they were waiting for Noah's Ark :D

You need to get that tooth looked at :(

Just the 2 old boys. The mini is a complete (in all senses of the word ;) ) chestnut.
Do you know, I have absolutely no idea of the height of either. They haven't been measured since they brought the passports in & I can't remember what they were then. I'll see if I can hunt out the passports & remind myself. That's easier than running up & down the hill after them :D

I love that YouTube clip. I'm lying here on my back in bed with a sleeping, nursing baby on me and she was bouncing all over the place as I giggled.

As a mother of twins, I've often wondered do two chicks come out of double yoker eggs?
