Oh, there was another potential buyer, but not one who would have been as quick as us, bearing in mind that they came late via the greasy agent.
Earlier, there was an alleged 'other buyer,' whose bid we matched, but we refused to bid higher, or get into any bidding war. Like you, we don't do that sort of thing.
The vendor was a very honest person who needed a complete break from her past, so it would have been both morally upsetting and risky to gazump us when she was in the same business as me and moving so close my old stamping ground. (OK you & I know I'd have done precisely nothing, but she didn't know that!)

so we're considering a temporary boiler an the house hold i evenly split. I' a no: its a late winter and it can't be too long to spring. DH is in the yes camp: his argument is ''protecing the fabric of the building'' and me not squealing if he lets a little cold air under the duvet
In the mean time the clear up for work to start keeps getting delayed because of work trips and health etc, so next week the builder' son is coming in to move stuff out from the room that will be the kitchen to one of the barns. Then the ceiling will come down and possibly a wall. I'll be able to see the real extent of our kitchen for the first time if the wall can come down. VERY exciting!0 -
e've been in touch with some architect/designer types today. Can't wait for completion so we can actually get them round to draw up some designes and OH can start clearing the house. It seems like a lot of work, but, as LIR says, very exciting

Weather has turned bloody miserable.
It will be an exciting year for you and lir in 2012!
We've put the new architect on hold, but we already have a set of sketch plans drawn by another architect, which are 'adequate' rather than exciting.
We also have three very big holes dug down to the foundations, with no immediate prospect of filling them in!
The weather here stayed reasonable today, so I burned all the quickthorn removed from the hedge over the weekend, before the sheep could attach themselves to any more of it! The rain arrived at dusk, just as I finished raking the odd left-over bits into the embers.
For the last two days, Mr Dog has taken to leaning against his outbuilding and staring at me working, but after genuinely not being noticed today, he resorted to shouting, "Good morning!"
I just waved back.
Perhaps this is supposed to be intimidation? The dogs were going mental most of the morning, from dawn onwards, but the wind meant the nice couple across the road from him were getting the brunt of it.0 -

Do they complain?
I wonder what is setting them off? Mine occasionally bark at dawn because we hear themilking parlour sometimes, but tbh, they are simply responding to a noise I could deem unacceptable (I don't, I actually rarely hear it in the morning and when I do I like it....accept when the relief milker comes at a funny time and I get worried I'm running late).
Otherwise they respond to seeing people or sounds here or at the farm next door. Thus the farmer appreciate them: they do the best job of guarding his place.0 -

The near neighbours don't complain, but they resent the noise. I imagine they're unwilling to create a fuss, with Mr D being so irrational and short-tempered. He comes from a difficult & shouty family, apparently.
I respect the couple's decision, but without them on board, the prospect of effecting any change is poor. They may have decided that the law is too ineffectual to risk it.
The dogs bark most when Mr D is at home. They just get bored and seek attention/action. While they will react to external stimuli like 'normal' dogs, most of the time it is mindless, or else they're whinging, because they come out of their cages an go for a walk for about ten minutes late afternoon, and they anticipate this.
April to October something else happens, so it's quiet(er!)0 -
Poor sods.
Mine haven't been on a proper walk for a while now (both in season) and the difference it mkes is tremendous. Even walking pm rather than am I find them edgier.0 -
I see I'm not the only one who feels as sorry for the dogs as I do for Dave0
