choille...it was a woodburner I was being cagey about: a type I'd never seen before..it looked like something Mr Tumnus would have had in his cottage in Narnia, and I didn't win it. It was relisted so I bid on it with a sniper (first time sniper use) but didn't win. I thought I'd be a little upset but I'm not at all. Its that ''sommercialism'' draining out of me. :) There is always something else around the corner, but sometimes I forget and get a bit ''I want, I want' (oh dear!) I'm now looking at a couple of others so we'll see. :)

Beware with 2nd hand old woodburners, they aren't as efficient as new ones and maybe in some disrepair.
I know because I bought and sold one :D

There is a fuel efficiency table somewhere for all new woodburners, quite a difference for some.

If it's a 2nd hand woodburner be wary as if it has a boiler & it's cracked ( usual reason for folk getting rid of) then it's expensive & difficult to get a replacement fitted - in some cases impossibly so.

I painted our woodburner the other day. I thought it would turn out horrible, with runs & brush marks everywhere, but it was so grotty I was prepared to risk it.

Anyway, it looks OK, even good, so that was a pleasant surprise. :)

Our RIRs are settling-in and seem pretty tame/placid, though there's a feather pecker among them. It's the smallest bird, somewhat younger than the other three, but it's being deterred by spraying the victim with our favourite smelly gunk.

Hope alfie is OK now the sedatives have worn off.... My turn this pm.

    Good luck Dave!

My turn on Friday morning! Just finished course of antibiotics for tooth/gum abscess, root canal on Friday depending on X-ray result... If bad goodbye tooth! Mouth was so sore and messed up last Fri Lovely Lady Dentist declined to take X-rays as didn't think I could cope (it's a sort of USB thing you have to stick in mouth and even when mouth OK it makes me gag). Love her to bits, and she always gives me sufficient pain relief too. :j While I hate dentist visits I do look forward to seeing LLD as she's always so nice, even down to complimenting me on wearing co-ordinating outfits! :) Plus she has really gentle hands, which makes a HUGE difference!

Its a shame I don't have one of you handy gents near by to come and look at these things with me. I am still looking at old ones, bearing in mind in the future there will be underfloor heating, its dh's study so hopefully the thing will only be used 8 weekends a year or so, but will be pretty all year round.

Our current woodburner is one of the good purportedly (clear view I think its called)....and I just hate it.:o

Alfie...I'm trying very hard not to do a you and resuce a couple of local ponies that I was told about today....owner reported to RSPCA and told the RSPCA one of these was going to be put down...instead its being advertised as a pony club pony ...its about as old as my very old mare you saw being clipped and in a much worse state. Other one is ina simialr state and being advertised as a brood mare.:mad:. If we weren't so stretched atm I'd have them here to end their days. Howver, if very old mare is anything to go by, they'd perk out and eat me out of house and home for years and years.
