I'm being stubborn about the woodburner, I think I have two weeks resistance left in me!

Ho hum... sad RozeePozee :( The survey was a bit of a disaster.. There is sooo much work needs doing and the valuation looks liketly to come in at least £50K under the price we had agreed "subject to survey".

We'll be deciding how to proceed in the next few days. May be back to the drawing board. Boo.

oh dear ...not good news but if you really like the property and anyone else who has a survey done is going to get the same report, surely you can try and get the 50k OFF the asking price ????

Alfie is right in theory, but the owners maybe won't see it that way, especially if the property is relatively new to the market and/or if you've already secured a good discount on the asking price. While it's a setback, the survey has been worthwhile. Old places can look good, but still hide a multitude of sins. :(

Being Wales, you could maybe see this property on the market for the next couple of years. It won't necessarily run away from you and it's worth bearing that in mind when entering further negotiations. Lord, there are still plenty for sale out there that we viewed in 2008/9. ;)

I admire your tenacity. We've been lighting ours on many evenings for around a month now. :o

Our log people turned up today with another huge trailer load of softwood for £40, but before I could stack it, Pete arrived with a Toyota load of hardwood and another 7 sheep in tow! So, there's a right mixture of logs to sort & stack on the next rainy day.

We're having the chimney swept on Thursday. That will mean listening to the same sermon as we've had for the last couple of years about how it doesn't meet regulations. Then we will get a soft sell on Utility Warehouse... "Customers really rate it, you know"

Well, since it's a kind of pyramid selling scheme, they would! ;)

    ;)

Us too, and CH is on in the morning as well...4C last night, cool enough for ground frosts.

Potatoes, carrots, onions and garlic simmering in turkey stock in a big stock pot...lovely smell!

Just thinking back to the Grand Designs last week and the shot of the mother, cardigan round her hips, with the children going to see to the animals in the soft morning sunlight. Cant recall they showed her in wellies, rain bucketing down, cleaning them out ;)

I'm sure that some people who seek the rural idyllic life dont realise that there's mud in the country :D

Well there is here, especially after the torrential rain & hail last night, but while hating the inconvenience, I appreciate the necessity of filling up the aquifers. It was far too dry last winter.

We hope to redesign certain bits of this place to minimise the mud , but nothing can be done about the state cars get into. I love it when we go to Bournemouth or Brum and park in the supermarkets, where Asian gentlemen offer people car washes while they shop. Somehow, we never seem to catch their eye! :rotfl:

We got the same sermon about regulations.....shame it's only been in a few years  bloody cowboys.

The last sweep that was here a few weeks ago said that if you have a metal flue, it's better to get it swept straight away in Spring after you stop using it, as it protects the liner.
