I think you're right at 20%, which compares unfavourably to the 28% donated by the National Lottery to good causes. Personally I'd rather the NHS be properly managed and funded by Govt via fair tax policy. Health care is enough of a lottery already.

Hrealth itself is a lottery :( TBH, I'd rather we were encoraged to take more and better care of ourselves, that there was a review of what was right for NI contributions, and that people were charged for failure to attend appts. I'd even consider a small fee per GP appt (up to a limit a year, like an NHS prescription prepayment provides a limit) fair...if applied to those with incomes. The NHS didn't treat my problem well, and its right they didn't, because it wouldn't have been a good return, and for treating one person with a problem that seemed pretty weird they could use the money for something that really is proven and gets people back on their feet properly. I feel aggrevied a beloved friend's ear pinning back op was done on the NHS too.

Anyway, no, I will NOT be buying these new lottery tickets.

I do think the previous Government did attempt to get folks to take better care but it's difficult not to become too much of a nanny state & there are massive inequalities in wealth & health & there is a connection btw the two.
The NHS was a marvellous viiisionary thing but it's become so badly run & top heavy with plenty of fat cats making fat money from the tax payer - that's enough from me - off to list more stuff for ebay free listings.

The family plague of illness and injury continues to wreak havoc, (though DD1 running a half marathon yesterday might not have helped!!).

Still SIL cut our main hedge yesterday which I couldnt manage atm. As an ex-Olympian, he did in 2 hours what would have taken me 2 days :o

DW (wrenched back) on christmas cake making light duty today + making passata from the glut of ripe toms. Turkey stock simmering on the stove as well so very domestic :)

Apart from the stored produce we've just got leeks, leaf beet, parsnips and a few carrots left in the ground. Will gradually put the garden to bed for the winter soon and reassemble the chooks winter quarters.

Quiet day again, hope the rest of you are busy planning and building.

Sorry to hear the woes continue in the Vale. We've had a heavy couple of days, so also on light duties (hoovering :() but breaking free any time now....:D

We picked up a staircase for the barn on Saturday, courtesy of BiL, so we fitted it yesterday, which led to a bout of serious tidying-up down there and a bit of a re-appraisal. We agreed to press ahead with work to enclose the open end of the barn and to address its dodgier structural issues, rather than stick solar panels on it.

Out in the garden we've much the same as you, but I have a late row of mange-tout that are cropping. The peppers are ripening too fast for us to keep up, so I'll freeze some chopped for stir fries. There's still loads of tomatoes for as long as the frost holds off, and I've two experimerntal plants grown from cuttings of the main ones starting to form fruit in the conservatory..... Ever hopeful! :rotfl:

Love the stove, alfie. :) With what look like decent prices, I bet that place is near Bath, rather than in it. ;)

Have had to remind DW we're not spring cleaning, as she's just found a pony shoe down the back of a radiator.....

Had a bit of a shock the other day, as I was in the loft with a guy giving me a quote for solar panels and a bat flew around our heads :( what timing, first time I've seen one since we've moved here.
Anyone here who knows how much is it likely to cost me to do it properly and get a licence to do any work up there?

You need a bat survey first, before the licence. That's the PITA because you'll be given restrictionds over what time of year you can do works there. e.g. we can't do anything between spring and Octoberish, so we'll be doing all roof and loft conversion works over one winter .

Speaking of which, I can get some insulation up there now. The grant doesn't cover the whole loft being done :( Only about half of it. :(

How much was the survey and who does them?
