Kazchow - The structural engineer is the one to listen to - that's why they carry big insurance as they under write the structural part of the build - their necks on the line if owt goes wrong with that part of things. I take it you have a structural engineer's certificate? And yes it aint stopped raining for months.

Yup we have a structural engineer, but the last wee seen of him was shen the portal frame was put in, he had to over see the moving of the stantions as they had been placed in the wrong place. That was mid august. I also have an architect supervising the job and at the end issuing a warrently, however, we never see him either!!!

go back to which ever is leading the project and say you are not happy.

Here, we too are architect led, but he has been in touch with the structural engineer over the weekend and the structural engineer is rushing over now. any decision that has to be made we get the opinion of both of these chaps and then form our own opinion and get that approved by them. If you are anything like us you are paying these people enough to go back to them and expect their help!

Well, good news on the kitchen wall....

a: I'm not going mad, it has moved a fair bit

b: structural engineer is designing some strapping for it for winter but things if we did nothing it would stand through winter treated considerately.

Its just as well to have some prop I think, because it feels very precarious. The top 8 rows or so of bricks on the extreme corner the mortar really is just as a decorative spacer now.....some harsh weather could be a very real challenge I think. :D the weather board (and there fore the roof above probably) has dropped by about two and a half inches.

I have to find some trees to replace the oak with a less invasive root....

Glad it is not too bad. Is this the gap in the wall that someone on the Winter thread suggested that you fill with bubble wrap and tape over to reduce the draught?
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing

well...yes...the gap that was about is MASSIVE ...its the corner that joins this single storey extention to the older part of the house. the corner that's opening up now is further along and its not as big and is actually the corner of the house in this extension. The other corner of that room ...not a corner of the house, also has some pretty hefty cracking!

but there are more through the house....

eg. the old part has moved in the past but isn;t moving now...but there is a sort of crack where the bricks hang out by about an inch and a half. The structural engineer is satisfied this is not a problem as there is another two feet or so where contact is fine and there is no movement at all.

yes, we get a nice refreshing breeze :D:D

LIR..... your "gaps" problem put my lack of power in the shade me thinks !! :D

had mega headache for 4 days now ?? tablets dont always agree with me so been trying to ride it out but not working !:( hav tried painkillers today but just got stomach ache now !:o

anyway i feel like ive been a tad lazy for said 4 days as i cant concentrate on anything... so sorry if im boring :)

everyone who is planning/buying/building all seem to be coming on in leaps and bounds...

KAZSCHOW....i tried to explain structural dilema to a friends architect/surveyor and he said obviously without all info he cant be sure but he cannot see that more cement can be poured on top of any cement thats not set. it would loose the bond and shrinkage etc could make the whole set up unstable. he was surprised that those that want to lay the floor [if they are same that put other in] are not bothered it hadnt "gone off"!! and queried if they are garanteeing the work if they didnt do 1st fill. then they cant blame someone else. he suggested postponing floor till this was sorted as could be a horrendous long legal wrangle if problems occur and the "evidence " is now buried......

n'ah, its only till we can get it fixed, we have the solution. There is still a solution needed for your power problem.

I think it would be worth a public campaign about solar on the Forest. I bet most tourists would be in favour of a greener forest, and most residents would I guess?

Alfie...you need to go back to the doctor about this headache....please take care of yourself!!
