After hearing about Lori I'm keeping my legs crossed!
And a bit like Rummer, its sun I wouldnt mind, not more rain.
Did a soggy car boot yesterday as I'm on taxi duty today. Gusty mizzle all morning even though Met Office said it was dry! It was a late starter at Bessemer Road, as the fruit market is held first, even so most people had gone by 11:30 so a complete waste of time, especially as i had a couple of items damaged by weather. Still, not as bad as one couple when a gust of wind took their clothes rail and landed it in a deep puddle :eek:0 -
How is everyone doing? I was shocked to hear that the heatwave is becoming so serious, up here we have had almost nothing but rain for months.
Not so much heat really, just dry. We had months of well below average rainfall, and that wasn't good either.
I suppose the must've been somewhere in the middle where things were almost normal!:rotfl:
I'm not great ATM. I have trouble with my knees, which is hampering my work a bit. Looks like a trip to the [STRIKE]vet[/STRIKE] doctor for some anit-inflammatory pills. I guess it was climbing in and out of all those foundation holes and kneeling down to pummel the rocks in the bottom of 'em.
Got a visitation from the Outlaws today, so little will get done, but then we're forecast 25c, so won't feel much like working anyway. Perhaps we'll actually have a home grown courtgette any day now. Those are one thing that tastes really rubbishy when bought in shops.
Veg to avoid: Giant red mustard. Nobody else liked it, and even the hens said 'Pass!'0 -
evening everyone... sadly no sign of goslings...i am still a] mystified b] sad c] embarrased ! poor LIR was so happy and now i feel a prat !
i have looked under and in every nook and cranny, but no sign...not even dare i say it,a carcass....
BUT i WILL get LIR some goosegogs if it kills me !! ... if not "it" then LIR will......
anyway i played poker last night and i was c**p ! 2nd out...
today i have been clearing a part of the garden and went off with the trailer to get woodchip/bark from a stack the size of a house that belongs to Mr Millionaire up the road..... he wont miss it ! [i did ask...] iv made a path and replanted shrubs and climbers.
it has been HOT HOT HOT today. right here iv been lucky, had good weather all week just the odd 5/10 min showers.
LORI is doing great, i turned him out with the others today, he was getting fretfull on his own. hes just on antibiotics for the next 5 days. he actually walked forwards today !! obviously decided it was more normal.....
anyway im suffering at the mo with my back but not surprising after all the shovelling iv done today ! own worse enemy ! iv got blood tests next tuesday.[hav to have them every 6 months] but they are chucking in a test for LIMES aswell this time... im not a fan of injections but i just read all the mundane info on the walls as they do it... when i have my MRI scans i actually fall asleep ! the vibrations/beat makes it a bit like sleeping in a tent at a rave..... [the not so distant past !!] the nurses have to wake me and always laugh saying it makes a change trying to get someone out as its usually getting people to stay in the thing...0 -

Alfie, of course I won't kill you, lol. Just take care there! I pmed so won't repeat what already said,
This weekend, summarised:
beautiful weather +
big stack of logs moved +
6 more big stacks left -
some grass cut +
lawn mower dead -
dh made strimming progress on the brambles +
he reached a plum/damson which we've seen but not close up, but it turns out its too difficult to prune there for him and I can't reach it on its slope -
three new roses out +
lots of strawberries, some redcurrants, gooseberries and raspberries eaten+
bees safely repaturated from box into hive+
dog dog doing well+
horse flies found us -
weeds -
So, now with out mower I'm left wondering what we'll do besides keep an eye out on ebay for a ride on lawn mower at a bargain price
While weeding (its got out of control again) I found an interesting weed, which might have been imported byt the very relaxed people who installed our septic tank. They did wolf down all the cake I baked. Hmmm.
Veg garden is not doing well. Its dry and hot. even the peppers looka bit baked up. Also, the feral cats have taken to peeing around the front door. The smell is far from pleasant and permeates through to the hallway. Suddenly I like the feral cats a little less.0 -
Morning all, were we the only ones that had glorious sunshine yesterday and temps averaging about 25? seems we have the same today,
I have been out watering this morning and I expect will be doing the same this evening. We have courgettes coming out of our ear holes, DH let one of the plants go mad recently and we have a very large courgette/small marrow so I need to get my !!!! out and cut it if he does not. We have mini butter nuts, tomatos everywhere (all green still though), mini melon galore, and we had our first carrot, potato and beetroot harvets last week.
I have spent most of the last few evenings steralising jars and pickling beetroots/freezing rhubarb/freezing raspberries/freezing blackcurrants.
DH has been hacking the ground pulling up the weeds/grass/mass amount of roots so we can get our fruit cage space cleared ready for the Autumn, he has done so much I am so impressed
I will start jamming when we have our next downpour I think.
How is everyone? sorry to hear about the goslings Alfie 1,Debt Free...yay! 10/09/2013 :j

,
Fruit cage is a constant worry to me...how we'll get it in. I'd like to do it this year, probably winter for us with another spring move for the poor fruits. I just can't work out how we'll do it. If we had the money spare I'd get a landscaper in to do it for usbut then it wouldn't really be ''cheap'' food either!
I really do worry about that all the time. I've even had troubled dreams over it. :rotfl:0 -
We are going to make a large walk in cage with door, as it will encourage me to go in, luckily DH is a gardener and groundman by trade so this is apparently a piece of wee wee for him (so he says, I do have the popcorn to hand mind you). We will be using our spare polytunnel hoops/bars as the frame and doing everything else as if it was a polytunnel. Apparently he will be making an entrance each end the same way he did with the polytunnels but with wire and netting instead of glass. I must admit he has done such a good job on polytunnel/chicken coop/ground that I am looking forward to him doing this.
LIR I am sure you wil be fine, we should do a comparison thing when we both do them to see how different they areDebt Free...yay! 10/09/2013 :j

You lucky thing.
Mine is most certainly not.Its the ground prep that really worries me (our chosen site are two rubble filled banks). TBH, if he pot the upright posts in for me I'd have a go at the rest. But the ground prep is the hard bit.

I managed to get an hour on the plot yesterday, before the baking sun came out, and cleared the brassica bed again from thistles. I planted out 6 brussels sprouts and 2 more calabrese, which will hopefully get going for late autumn./winter crops.
I also cleared out the leeks area, but didn't have time to plant out the second pot of seedlings (the first one went out about a month ago). Then I spent 40 minutes harvesting - raspberries took 20 minutes alone! One nice tub of those, with a handful of black and red currants thrown in too (very bad results on those this year - and not ONE gooseberry!). Net back over those, and then a decent bag of peas, some broad beans, small tub of spinach (they're bolting so won't get much more) and 3 nice lettuces (well, some bolting happening but 2 still sweet and I'll eat the 3rd for my lunches).
OH is taking DD to visit the ILs for the weekend, and I will go back to the plot and plant out the last of the leeks, clear and sow more roots, get another few rows of peas in (as the current lot will be done in just another few weeks and I've nothing to follow them with, and maybe some more broad beans too. I want to get some dwarf french beans in, and hopefully a few more bits and pieces to make use of the bits that are fallow at the minute.
And then, when the forecast rain arrives again, I will be getting the sewing machine out and making inroads into my stack of projects there too!! Woo hoo!!
I may even get to sleep late one morning without any guilt!!GC 2010 €6,000/ €5,897
