Oh davesnave, that IS bad news.
Guessing you've already separated them and down wind?
Poor little blighters.0 -
So far, touching lots of wood, we've had no cold/respiratory problems with our 3, as you know their water is supplemented with garlic and apple cider vinegar.
Yes, the squashes are in a sheltered spot in very rich compost.
Back muscles torn this morning, first time for well over a year. Trying to walk thru the pain barrier to prevent seizing up entirelyComputer chair has arms so can lower myself into it. DS2 fed chooks and walked dog though, DW still away sorting out aged relation.

They were already in isolation. That's what our Peccadilly Circus is for. Nowhere near the other lot and we use a footbath. We do the cider vinegar routine too. Don't deserve this!:(Back muscles torn this morning, first time for well over a year. Trying to walk thru the pain barrier to prevent seizing up entirely.
I'm on ibuprofen for my knees ATM. Seems to be helping. I'm trying to avoid going to the quack for more powerful NSAIDS.0 -

Oh, not so good. Were you doing something you shouldn't?

Could it be transmitted by wild birds? (I've read that collared doves are a major carrier)
Think the back was a cumulative thing, its been playing up for some time, especially when gardening, and it went as I got out of bed
Unfortunately Ibuprofen has some quite unpleasant side effects, just wish I could take it0 -
Better morning here, should have painted windows I suppose, weather just right, but instead I watered the pots, got those lingering still on windowsills out and then got the white bed weeded and some of the LONG bed. I might do a window this afternoon. I know I'll feel better when the front windows are finished for this year.0

I get back spasms a lot. when they are unrelenbting I take an anti depressant which is also a muscle relaxant. I don't moch like taking things designed to mood alter, but I do like relaxed muscles.I'm guessing you've spoken to your doctor about alternative pain killers?
Maybe you can relax in a chair in the garden today? Enjoy the fruits of your labour

From one back sufferer to another; maybe listen to that back sooner?
I know it is tempting just to see how far you can push it but its it worth it? Not necessarily good at taking my own advice here but...
If your back is in spasm, it may be worth taking any other pain killer or a mild sedative to relax the muscles. IB wrecks my digestive system so it is no use.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
hiya CTC... i am a great believer in fate. it decides when the RIGHT time for things are. whats right for some isnt for others...they will get thier own "right" time...
i only got this place cos i helped search for a missing cat years ago, joined by an elderly chap [never met before but lived up a lane nearby and offered to help owner too], got chatting and he came back to me about this place as he knew the LORD owner!! so what will be will be... something will present itself and you will jump at it.....0 -
Sorry to hear there's an outbreak of back pain on this thread! I've got a dodgy back too and a while ago had spasm so bad OH had to take time off work as couldn't even get to use the loo (potties not much fun!
). Had to sleep on the living room floor for about 3 weeks as bed too soft (and I have a very hard mattress). Only thing touched the pain was dihydrocodeine. Can't take ibuprofen for same reason as Rhiwfield. 6 months later when still very uncomfortable doc sent me for X-rays and it turns out I have spondylolisthesis L5/S1 (it's a sort if forward slippage of L5 over S1) though consultant very rude and said it doesn't cause pain! !!!!!!.
I'm a bit stiff and sore today despite hot bath this morning as foolishly dug up the shallots yesterday afternoon. OH has planted more spuds in their place. Yes, I know it's too late, but it's been a difficult year!
Very pleased with the shallots, have done much better than I thought. We'd dug up a couple and they weren't very big and hadn't bunched much, but when I thought it through I realised we'd gone for the ones by the path which OH said he'd planted the smaller bulbs there.

Have also finally sorted phone, broadband and TV for the house, installation on 14 July. So we'll be spending more time there after that!
Finishing touch for glass staircase arrived today - stainless steel caps for the ends of the oak handrail. :j Am ridiculously thrilled with it - really looks fabulous even without the end caps!0 -
Maggie, sorry to hear of yet another sufferer! When its bad its rather degrading, and simple functions become almost impossible and hugely painful. Anyhow, and more to the point, your shallots look great. Used some of our onions yesterday to make a stew but not sure how well the rest will store looking at the foliage, and they're not even ready for lifting
Need dry weather and a fair bit of sun.
Looking forward to seeing you installed in your new house
RAS, believe me I have been trying to be careful! Obviously not careful enough! And if the potatoes get blighted
Greenhouse tomato growing tip from last week: Dont cut thru the main stem when you trim off lower leaves0
