I am feeling postively chirpy today ( for a change..lol...) so i should imagine something will come along today and change that:rotfl:
Done some research & just changed my mind about what I said above.:( I don't think we will keep the birds if they survive. Chances are, they will be weakened...... Two of them have been sneezing blood all over the place, including coop walls....really not nice! But they are still eating well on this posh diet & two are foraging.
Just give your beans a good general fertilizer feed. High potash comes a bit later.
If you are still up for Status Quo, you are feeling younger than me!:rotfl:Go for it while you still can!0 -

I highly recommend itOnly thing is I always have nettle rash on my ankles from dress wearing, so better if your garden is neater and less weedy than mine.

Davesnave, seriously, I'd not be threatening to talk to defra but rather talking to them. This is NOT good, and there is both a welfare issue at the breeders place and potentially a disease control one.
Its possible these chickens will also being sold to people who aren't as able as you and your DW and who will not be taking effort to prevent spread of disease. This could simply be neglact, or it could be a serious thing, I seriously recommend taking this further.0 -

Breakfast calls....but I take your point. I am waiting for an email back from them to see where they will take it next. I suppose we could take a hen to have a blood test (50miles!) for an ID of the virus, but who'd be paying for that?0 -

well, imo a small price to pay compared to finding yourself deeply locally unpopular and having them all disposed of if it turns out to be something truly frightful undealt with.
(post birdflu and foot and mouth rurally is a little like post 9/11 for city dwellers I guess. )0 -

I'm taking the advice of our local chicken expert vet, who hasn't suggested a blood test unless there's a death.
The place they came from hasn't obvious welfare issues (DW has seen all round) & has awareness of cross-contamination etc. They are inspecting carefully at their end....and so far, nothing, except some lice. They are no more experienced than we are, however.
How long for a virus to incubate? Could they have got it here from a wild pigeon, as someone suggested? We got them on 21/6.
Off to Google.....:o
Edit: Good news, they're getting the vet in0 -

And I didnt even want a lorry on top of my espaliered apples

Oh dear!:eek::eek: And I thought we were having a bad day!:(
Hope he is well insured as well as relatively unscathed.;)
One hen's just died. The autopsy place isn't answering its phone, but everything's academic now till Monday. TBH I don't think an 80-90 mile round trip would do anything other than stress-out and kill the other two anyway.
We await a communication from the breeders. I really hope they haven't got this breaking out at their end, but it depends where these birds were kept, and whether it's just mycoplasma triggered by stress, or something in tandem with it.0
