Well it rained & winds blew but the whole of the house is scaffolded by Davy & Shaun & next weekend they are back with avengence to sling wood at the house big style. Goodness what a great day work wise to see things happening after so long & slow a progress.
This evening spent ebay listing - will have to pay for this some how.
The chicks are progressing - gave Dave a big Orp surplus Cockerel. He's a part-time gamekeeper so he'll have no probs.
The midgeys are fierce - big lumps in places muscles don't grow!

A blackbird has nested in the house build - awww - hope they fly soon.
Snow melted off the tops - or was that washed away in the deluge?

In the great antiques bargain hunt game rhiwfield learns rule number four the hard way at the local comp's car boot sale:
    1. Buy cheap, sell dear
    2. Listen to the head, not the heart
    3. Condition, condition, condition (unless rare)
    4. A full set of Queen Anne caprice china in mint condition becomes airborne when winds gust at 50mph :eek::eek:
Conditions were so bad that everyone started packing up, I was the slowest with the remains of the china to wrap and packing material flying to the heavens, the organisers had gone, at which point people started drifting in. Managed to sell a few odds and sods, some plants, collectors plates and stuff, just about enough to break even, and had a good laugh with the buyers who braved the conditions. They couldnt believe that a fully advertised car boot could have just one seller, think they were buying my stuff out of sympathy!

Still, had a lovely couple of days with family and a surprise party, so a busy weekend and lots of auctions ending tonight so will have a busy Monday as well :)

    I've been Money Tipped!
I'm so tired! I might be looking for a largish ''small'' hen house soom. I've got eggs tomorrow, and if it twenty one days they hatch I will be. Its a long story you might get in 21 days and a night. ;)

Also, a decision made, with the help of our wonderful neighbours we've decided to go properly organic on the ''farm''. I'll be called the soil association this week. Gulp! Not the garden yet but the field. Neighbours have offered us the tractor power to top instead of spray, and lots of help.

    hiya,

oh RHIWFIELD ..... i inow exactly what you were going through.:rotfl:..i got to boot sale 1/4 to 8. parked and as i opened my door it was wrenched from my hand ... being "hardy" i unpacked and half gayley drifted off down the field... i was rescuing items and then as i sat in the back of my van, the open door slammed almost shut, luckily my LEG prevented this !!:rotfl: i was seronaded by the sound of crashing tables and falling glass items. people came past at 90mph,even if wanting to stop, couldnt ,:p.... needless to say i didnt sell much and just chucked all in the van by 10.30...

and what id earnt i promptly spent on plants !!! so something cheerfull came of my efforts:D

i did feel sorry for one lady [;)]there that was quite "posh" selling posh clothes at posh prices... she was telling passing wind driven passengers of the virtues of her items to justify her prices when the WHOLE rail took off rolling over and over and distributing her wares to the four corners of the field !!:rotfl:.......

i have planted my plants and all should do well except maybe one that my darling dog [JR] decided to dig up and destroy for some reason ???:(

Well - all been busy getting blown asunder at car boot sales. If it's been as windy by you lot as up here your either mad or very poor - I happen to be both.

Does anyone know why one can only buy 5 colours of exterior grade Dulux paint & tey can't mix it intheir machine according to B&Q?

Fancied some Ball & Farrow but didn't have the colour I liked in Exterior grade. Diddn't know getting or rather not getting a tin of paint could prove so damnably difficult - Grrrrrrrrrrrr.
Thing is I need to paint a large window when it's down here - on the deck, as once it's in place I ain't going up a ladder that height to paint it.

choille...when you say EXTERIOR GRADE ,is it for wood or walls ?? there is normally lots of exterior wood colors? my friend gets farrow & ball but it takes a few coats as although colors are fab the paint is not thick !! her daughter has just had the outside of her house painted [on render] and i will ask what/where/costs of paint used as i know good selection of colors...if it is just for wood ,there should be lots on the market ?

glad you feel youve "moved ahead" with your build project, will soon be telling us the color of your carpets....:)

Comiserations regarding the tea set, rhiwfield. Such a shame.:( Outdoor sales of any kind aren't much fun in the wind. We used to find it maddening enough when plants flew off the tables, but they can be grown on again and sold another day.

So it's not just us then! My wind chart, if you'll pardon the expression, shows 7 windy days and 4 very windy days in the last two weeks. So, just 3 days of light breeze. That's awful for this time of year. I know, because the past week was the one usually booked in the days when I took parties of schoolchildren for a week on the Costa del Dorset. Over 20 the years or so, I think we had about three bad weather days.

At least when the wind comes from the west we have some protection, so we muddled on with our nursery work again today. We have a couple of small events coming up, and many plants now need moving up a pot.

Organic status eh, lir? Well, I'm afraid that'll elude us, but I'm happy with the compromise we struck here. We've resisted blanket spraying from an ATV, and at a guess, I'd say we've knapsack-sprayed 10% of our land, getting rid of the worst weeds, but that still leaves 90% untouched, and so we still have the wild flowers, albeit not as many as I'd like.

Nice to hear of progress for you too, choille. You have been incredibly patient. :A

Someone has promised me a ride-on mower; not a wonderful one, but at least I'll be able to see if it saves us time. :)

Alfie - It's fora wooden window.

Choosing carpets will be a way off. I'm so scared of getting into debt I can't sleep.

I must admit my patience is running out a little Dave. Cannot handle the thought of another Winter in the caravan.
