Grrr. My broody chicken has gone of brood. I'm desperately trying to set up the incubator. Then have to hope someone goes broody again in the next few weeks, these babies NEED a mamma.

Thanks davesnave. I'll rub out my chalk, re draw and put it back up. The terrace along the house ...well, concrete ''wide path'' is already there, and wanting an area over by the kitchen I worried abut the amount of hard standing if I widened it, but had those paths running out to where the main part of the garden will be....thinking, e.. in a party, people would spill out of the doors, along the paths and in a sort of route...in to the garden.

Runnng the pond the otherway will be good to draw out. I want pay of water on the ceilings inside, but yeah, no more bugs! Turning the pond would solve those problems, so I'll think about that way now. :)

This is a good feedback, useful. :)
LIR ...just had a thought !!!! i have here 2 large filter tanks [pre used for big koi ponds. ] they are the size of a water tankk?? 3-4ftx 3ft x3ft ish.... if they are any good to you to filter ANY thing then let me know before i chuck em !!!

I don't know. But I feel I might be starting to take after you.:) the words ''chuck'em'' make me want to type ''I'll have 'em''.:D:D:D

I've spent part of the evening re working the garden with dave's ideas in my ears. I can't get it right. I want to keep a sense of strong, Italianate symmetry and progression down to the bigger bit of garden. so I'm trying to have the pond echoing the terrace now. Its gonna do my head in. Watching Chelsea is confounding my design depression.

did you see my friends garden ,well that from upstairs follows the lines of a cello..... the lawn, paths and pergola etc all form it. it is very cleverly done...:) i will see if i can find/take a picture of it cos it has themes of flowers as it goes round...difficult to describe but if you have a favourite "shape" it may help you to draw it then fill in the spaces, then from upstairs you will get a double benefit..... i know i sound BARKING :D but iv seen it done before and she had hers done by top designers for the plans.... just an idea....:)

doesn't sound mad at all, I didn't relaise the shape of your friends from the ground, but it was pleasing anyway.

I just like very geometric things. I think in my ideal garden hard lanscaping should be symmetrical and pants should be crazy and defy that man made enclosure.

A quick word on design. When I design any part of my garden, not much to be fair, as mine seems to evolve rather than be designed from scratch, I do it from a design POV, then look at it again from a practical POV. How difficult would it be to keep clean, to weed, mow, get round it with me/other things I need to get round it with.
I've been looking at your design and I find it impossible to comment without seeing the rest of the garden, that's why I haven't said anything.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.

    I know. :(

I'm reluctant to put iding photos on MSE tbh. But I know somewhere I can. I'll ask and if its ok I'll put them up and send you a link in next few days.

My design as photo'd here, I agree with DN about its troppo. It looks like a stripey table mat :D I'm not too precious to take a critique :)
