Top soil and compost, completely different.
Add alot of poo anyway, I don't think you can add too much tbh. In fact if you have soil at the bottom of the beds, I would just have added loads of very well rotted manure and used that.
They are ''out of the office'' till next week and I just wanna get on with it. Idiots. I'll use it. I'm too impatient to do otherwise.:o
Getting down hearted with the trash in the back garden. Just trying to get a clematis in today and instead got two wheel barrows of baler twine, rusty corrugated iron and junk before getting a hole big enough and with enough''good'' soil around it.
I'm hoping to get part of my back garden design on paper this weekend for critique....I'll put it out on the board, not in our thread.0 -
good evening all...
well tuesday evening i think i just "collapsed" in my bed !! i got up at 7 am , fed animogs and went back to bed till 1pm !!!! cant believe i did that !! i cant normally sleep again after iv actually got up..... i think my brain had shut down too ! i spent yesterday with BF, walked the dogs down the lane onto the shore, they swam and we sat on a big fallen tree...felt like robinson crusoe ! we sat in the sun in the garden and finally we ate ! i still always feel guilty if i havnt done something constructive each day but this week I DONT !!
i am going to the O2 on wednesday to see a band of BF,s choice [i will leave it at that!] next weekend we are off to the IOW [fri-sun], i have use of a great house right on the non madly populated end of the beach. every window looks out to sea.... so just got to book the ferry and im off. iv sorted temporary" homes " for the moveable animals... the advantage of this trip is two fold...one -i get a break, two-YOU all get a break from my woffling !!
with regards eggs going missing/broken...yes badgers do take them, so do some birds...i found a jackdaw in my nest box having a good nosh ! also some hens are having a peck at the eggs at a friends even tho they had every supplement...shell grit etc.??0 -
Sounds a great place to go Alfie - Hope you have a lovely break - well deserved I would say.
WEll we have a hail & thunder storm raging, been awful all day. Weirdy weather. Poor lambs, just glad I don't have that worry, bad enough with chicks & Mother hen who insists on being out with hers. The cooker egg chicks are warmly & safely enscinsed in the big shed in their little cages, with their heaters.
Was hoping for the big house push this weekend, but the forecast is pure gloom. I'm hackled off about that. The wood arrived this afternoon in a gale.0 -
HAve a good time alfie!
we'reback to hearing and seeing the thunder but not getting any of the blessed rain. I did notice that some of our blackberries are flowering. IN MAY. I ope this doesn't mean winter is going to start in August.:( Its most odd, all of it. Blackberries flowering at the same time as roses are opening? All very unsettling.0 -
LIR - our grounds back to bog almost.
It's so bitter. can't believe tha snow on the tops - although not unusua to get 'lambing snow'. But blackberries flowering now is defo weird.
Thought it was weird my strawbs nearly there & so are my gooseberries, but garden very neglected.
There 's still a cuckoo shouting for a mate but only one calling - we used to be inundated with them - drove you....welll...cuckoo. There is hardly any coming now. Heard it was because when they get here now everythings started - chicks well hatched etc.
Sad thing on Uist they have about 100 pilot whales beaching, some are badly hurt & are heading to the shore the rest are following. It is so sad to see on the news.0 -

i took george to vet to get her stitches out [eye] today and saw a notice there for a good home wanted for an "older" jack russel x. think a "she" and looked very sweet. owner is devastated at having to rehome due to her circumstances ????? .................. just thought id mention it !! OR you can hire BIMBLES hunting skills....now he is GOOD !! hed have a field day at yours....wear him out....hopefully!0 -
Well, back at the ranch again, after spending yesterday extricating DD2 from her flat in Poole. At least we'll never have to reverse the big van into her yard again: a feat so scary I made DW do it second time around!:rotfl:
Poole is supposed to be seasidey and flat, but DD managed to find a place on a San Fransisco-type hill, so steep that one rear wheel on an unloaded van would lift and we'd lose all traction when attempting to back in. Next year, she'll be in a nice house, on the flat, with no dry rot, no mould and a real heating system. There's also nowhere for a ferret, so that's one issue settled. Choosing accommodation on the basis of it being ferret-friendly isn't always wise.
Not a lot of rain forecast, even long range, though we might get a smattering tomorrow, along with more high winds.:( I'm not happy about those, though because the weather's so unusual, I don't know if it's our location or a more general thing. I'm keeping records. At least when it's from the west/south west we have shelter, but south/south east is worst.
If it carries on dry, there's a good chance I'll get one side of the polytunnel foundations sorted this coming week....the only up-side I can see.
Only one cuckoo heard here this year, same as last year.
Hope you have a good time on the IOW next weekend, alfie. I love it over there, especially Ventnor Botanic Gardens.0 -
We've heard loads of cuckoos this year, really early as well. Everything was really early, but damage by the big frost we had, has really knocked most thing for 6.
I don't think my early potatoes should be that far off being ready, but they really need some rain to bulk up, I think they've had 1cm since they've been planted. The rest from the tap.
So where's the ferret going to be living now? I read the ferret/house story to the OH, she was amusedFreedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

Both ferrets have gone to the Big Rabbit Warren in the Sky. They lived to a decent age - eight is good for ferrets - but as Wilf was a rescue animal, his age was the vet's best guess.
Methinks the demands of a highly respected college, plus other 'distractions' means the current situation is fortuitous.0 -

So one more animal for you
Lotus-Eater, I'm tempted to unearth the first of the rocket potatoes, this bed is in full flower and we have had some rain to bulk up. And the first toms have set in the GH. But no cuckoos heard at all
Another car boot tomorrow, and lots of ebay items proving popular and ending over next 2-3 days with requests to ship to Germany, Taiwan etc to complicate matters. Bought some Royal Doulton flow blue yesterday for the dresser's pot board, lovely stuff!0
