How marvellous. I do hope it goes well. Land is such a bonus, but get a survey of the house if you are going to make an offer as you don't want to find out it has something seriously wrong with it after you've bought it - I'm sure you know that.
In Scotland you can get a copy of previous survey if one has been done & that is cheaper - don't know if it's the same where you are.
    All the best.

Thanks choille........yes, we will definately have a survey. We'll end up gutting the house anyway and I know there's asbestos on the outbuildings, which isn't as expensive to remove as I thought it would be.

We replaced every single floor, ceiling, stud wall and even a couple of external walls in our current property (gable end collapsed), I can't quite believe we're going to go thru' it all again, but I'm fed up of having a pocket hanky as a garden.

I must try not to get too excited, I'm just going to keep everything crossed from now on.

    Well you're game & able - excellent.

Asbestos was used here a lot for roofing. It's only a problem when it's come to the end of its life & needs replacing & then you get someone to come that is licensed to remove it - as you know.

I'll keep everything crossed for you.

Well done! I guess we are allowed to know what it looks like now??:D

Tibbies mum..... where are you looking to move to?? Still in Devon?

Well, all my plans have come to a grinding halt. The building work has started and my garden looks like a re-enactment of the moon landings. I have all the materials ready to build the beds but I need to wait until the worst of the building work is over, so hopefully in the next couple of weeks I can get started, weather permitting:eek:

I have most of the money needed saved for the greenhouse, I only need another £180 so that I think will be fairly acheivable as I am selling all the kids clothes on ebay and they are going for fairly good money. I'd like another baby, but Mr Mambury says no, so sell it all ( I will keep the expensive bits, like the cloth nappies and cot etc, just in case I can change his mind!) and put it towards the garden.

Stitchy - hows the business plans coming along?? I would love to do sometig like that. I saw a dressmaking course locally to me but my littlest doesn't start nursery until after xmas so I guess I will have to wait until next year! SO in the meantime I am attempting to teach myself to crochet to pass the time.

I am soooo stressed out at being stuck indoors with the kids because its either raining (again!) or the builders are here. Roll on sept when at least DS can go to school, if the govt let them open because of swine flu.

CTC - not heard from you in a while, hope everything is okay.

    Ramble, ramble, ramble.......

    off to make lunch.

Hope you are all keeping well!

Mambury Yes, we'll still be in Devon, in fact we're looking fairly close to your neck of the woods.

Would you believe I'm already looking at hatching eggs on Ebay, I must get a grip and calm down. I'm counting my chickens far too early!!!!

How exciting Tibbies mum! So glad to hear that you are almost there! Mambury at least the work is underway and you can see an end in sight! I still need to encourage my OH to finish our beds so I can maximise our growing space for the winter.

Thanks, everyone, for all your good wishes. The last few days have been manic, but we've already taken a couple of van loads down to the new place, changed locks, cleaned the carpets and begun the job of 'finding' everything. The previous owner wasn't able to supply much info about the place, but a former resident had been merrily bodging his way around it for many years, so it's been a case of 'follow that wire' and 'trace that pipe!'

Although the structure is solid, sound & watertight, like Tibbie's Mum, we expect to do some demolition and addition eventually, particularly the bits that are 'home made,' but right now those extras are proving very useful. Mambury I can't put up any pictures yet, as the agent has removed us from their site, but I'll do something with Flickr soon as I have some time free.

Tibbie's Mum, I'm so pleased that you are getting somewhere with your sale now. You might not have been offered the price you want, but that should just make you more 'adventurous' negotiators yourselves. I'm sure the deer ;) agents in North Devon are not fond of us, as we've proved tough cookies, well up to their games, but it isn't a market to !!!!!foot-about in. Mambury & I will now be spending some time combing the agent web sites, trying to second-guess which property you are keen on!!! :rotfl:

ETA: Didn't realise 'pu ssy' was a forbidden word here!

Tibbie's Mum, hope that the property you are viewing turns out to be the right one for you, couple of acres sounds idyllic for 3 boys.

Congratulations Dave on getting your hands on your new property at last, hope that your plans go well for you.

Hope to have €235 to put into my dream fund this week....not sure yet though as still have to get my hands on the month's money.

    Good luck everybody
