Nice idea, and it's OK for now, but in the long term it looks like you'll be 'Huggered!':rotfl:

    Hi all

Well sorry for not being around lately, my stepdaughter seems to have moved in which is great, although i now have to cook and clean and wash for an extra body lol. Although to be fair she is a much greater help than her dad or siblings lol. If she wanted to move in permanently it would make us all really happy but will just have to wait and see.

DH finally got his benefits sorted out, so the cheque went straight into the bank this afternoon after the postie delivered it :0) was a really happy bunny as this means that we can hire a van tomorrow and get another shed and a summerhouse for the kids over the weekend. my dad is donating the second shed and my best mate is giving the kids the summerhouse that is currently residing in her garden.

Hubby now has a sewing machine and has already completed his first project which was a mouse costume for our oldest who was starring in the gruffalo with the local community drama group. most of it was hand sewn before the machine arrived but it turned out lovely! And his next project is a peg bag for me!!! But he has the challenge of not buying any material forit, he has to see whats lying around the house.

debt wise, have sorted the bank on a 6 month plan, so am just waiting for the others to follow suit. Not worying about it any more as theres no point stressing about stuff like that, life is more important.

am becoming involved in the local seedbank project which saves seeds for the future. dont ask me too much about it but will come back later on with some useful info.

still recycling, dalek 1 is filling up nicely, sojust gotta get the rest of the garden to follow suit. that is if i can stop the local cats coming and piddling and pooping all over the garden!!!

be back later on folks, and will try to post a photo of DD1 in her mousie costume!

Had one of these once and it was a pain in the **!!. Two problems, first, you need to shred and then soak the paper, which is really messy (and it doesnt like glossy paper). Second, the briquettes take forever to dry unless you get a prolonged spell of fine weather. Other people may have better experiences but for me it was a lot of work for little reward.

Now I prefer to use newspaper for lighting the logburner, scrumpled sheets to get it going and rolled up multi-sheets (knotted) instead of kindling. Lot less effort and saves on firelighters. Also use shredded/scrumpled newspaper for the compost heap.

thanks for the info.... if i had bought one i was thinking of doing the brickettes throughout the summer so they could dry out ready to use in the winter...

might get hubby to do a make shift one then... as in plastic sandwich box with loads of holes in the bottom, and then use a brick or something to weigh it down to get the water out of it...at least i wouldnt have spend my money, and still have a little 'play' lol...

we have now started to get some old pallets in etc to cut up ready for when we light the fire, we wanted to a stock pile, as i am sure this winter there is going to be a higher demand for waste wood, with more and more people buying wood burners...

but the way its been raining the last few days, the house is now felling quite damp and cold.... so migt burn some wood tonight, just to take the chill out of the air...

    Hi all

Well I was going to buy one of those bricketter maker things but i think i'll just not bother now lol. Not that we have a wood burner but we do have a firepit thing in the back garden and it would be easier to use brickettes but will keep just using it the way it is lol. Although hubby did see a really fancy looking one! Will just have to keep dreaming for a while.

My dalek is coming along nicely and i have managed to get another shed thanks to my dad and a little summerhouse for the kids from my best friend so that has saved me over £400. Hubby did spend £60 on a new base for the shed and some new felt for the roof but it is a start!!! At least i can use the second shed next year like a potting shed and hopefully get loads and loads of fruit and veg started in it. I also have the offer of a load of seeds and plants next spring from the seed bank project which will help a lot. Basically what happens is we get to eat the veg but we harvest, dry and freeze the seeds and they will be stored so that in the future there will be more than enough seeds for everyone to have veggies growing in their gardens. Its one of these projects thats being started in case the world's oil supplies dry out!

We have finally managed to get an update on the nightmare electric bill! the company are adamant that they sent 3 bills out to us that werent paid but we never got one bill let alone 3!!! and have established that they have made the mistake because we have been in touch asking for payment cards, direct debits and bills, so it is their fault. They have set us up a new account and are sending out all the necessary stuff so that should help. but not a very happy bunny and am seriously considering changing my supplier if they don't start acting properly. They have also admitted that we are on the wrong tarriff as well so going to complain about that!

So things are looking up a wee bit more but we still have a ways to go! Weather here has been really poopy just lately and tomorrow i have to take the little one to hospital as a day patient so won't get much done then!!!

Hope you are all having a good weekend!

Before I forget WELCOME to all the new people I havent said hi to yet!

My fund has a little in it, am hoping it will grow more when daughter and partner move out - Feb. Now hubby is disabled all future plans are on hold, as much as I long to move somewhere quiet ( off council estate) it will take a while. However still keeping the dream. Like me you are all fighting real life - redundancies, family illness etc, and fighting on. Got some vouchers off here and found a few threads for cheap stuff to help the cause. this site has been a godsend if nothing else it renews my enthusiasm everyday - and its free!!
