Morning Stitching Witch, that sounds as if you have a fabulous opportunity!Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

Stitchy, this could be the break you need to get going on your own, if you feel you have enough funds to go for it! Here's the only link I can supply which might help, but I expect you're aware of it:
http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/bdotg/action/home?domain=www.businesslink.gov.uk&target=http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/
We have been out today, sizing up the opposition in the area we're moving to, although the plant fair we attended had people from all over the region, from Cornwall to Lyme Regis. Anyway, we made a few useful contacts, which is what it's all about. I'm getting more excited now, as it was all good news from the Planning Officer last Tuesday, regarding our plans for the place. Hopefully, we'll be exchanging contracts in a week's time............
I've found this hot, dry spell very trying, with constant watering here and at our old nursery site. The problem with some plants in pots is that you can kill them with kindness too. I will be so glad when those plants have made their journey down the M5 to be with me 24/7. Then I suppose the blooming rabbits will eat them instead!
I listened intently to 'On Your Farm' this morning, which followed a pig breeder preparing for the last Royal Show, but now I'm beginning to realise the pigs will be a little way down the line, yet. Funny sort of retirement this is turning out to be!
Hope your Mum is recovering well Mrs MC. For everyone else, I hope your rain comes at night and your funds are swelling like marrows.0 -
hi all can i join this thread please?
my dream is to own a small peice of land, about an acre, that i can do just about anything i want with, number one idea is to split it into allotments and let them out, or sublet it to the councill if that would work, my husband loves the idea to, just need to get the money together as well as clear the debts, but while im getting funds together im going to look at what all my options are and how interested the council would be in my idea. what do other people think?
also can i ask how you find out about farmeers auctions to sell and buy? id love to go to one but can never find out were they are. thanksback to comping in 2017, fingers crossed :beer:0 -

Afternoon all
Davesnave..... thanks -mum spent 4 nights in that private hospital and came out feeling better than when she has been on holiday :Dshe is now sat at home not allowed to do anything whilst my brother is doing everything...she is loving it :rotfl:...she seems to be doing really well, just waiting for her results on wednesday -fingers crossed;)
Stitchingwitch -so sorry about your job, but you seem to be viewing it as an opportunity to do something fresh -great attitude -here's hoping its the start of a great new chapter for you :T
Bonsibabe -hope the "bad" things get sorted for you soon
Well we are slowly starting to get some veggies from the tubs n pots.. Im taking the 1st courgette off today :j-so Im going to saute some onions, add the sliced courgette, then some wholegrain mustard and some marscapone and a handfull of peas to make a sauce -then put some roast pork leftover from yesterday into gratin dishes and top with the sauce and stick in the remoska mmmm going to steam a few potatoes and do a side salad to go with it ....
I can update my savings now too :j I can add another £257.06 to the UK account -would have been a little more but I sent flowers to mum -so I don't mind
So Im up to €3898.31 + £401.17:D
I have been eyeing up houses again..the one with the big ole garden I loved is still on the market and I have spotted another with less garden but its more structured and the house is better -oh and there is a golf course almost at the foot of the garden -hubby heaven-plus it means they are unlikely to build there ;)oh and its £15,000 less.... we are coming home toward xmas so we may take a peek if they are still there -but the devil is that they are in areas where they may be harder to let out until we finish in the army -
Mum has said that if we want we can finish in the army -send everything straight to storage for a while and move into her spare room which means we would be able to try and sell the house we have -then put anything leftover from paying the mortgage off and hubbies lump sum pension towards another house -which means we would be able to move quicker-eeeeee aren't mums lovely
...
hmmmmmm still, for now I will keep on saving and dreaming..we will all get there eventually...
hope everyone is having a great week-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
Evening all,
Bit early this month for me to know what there will be to put into my fund this month...may have to buy tyres for the car which would severely handicap my savings, but not something you can take a chance on, is it?
Raspberries, loganberries and tayberries doing well, getting some every day, got some gooseberries and red currants tonight as well, going to try to multiply the stock for next year as we have some spage where they could go....just realised I forgot to check the strawberries so must do that before it gets dark...will freeze half and eat the other half.
Glad to hear that your mother is doing well MrsMC

Hi all,
I've hardly posted on this thread but try to follow it. decided to 'pop in' and say Hi:hello:
Sounds like you're all doing well. My tiny back yard is being quite productive this year. I've been much better at looking after it (remembering to water, lol) and have had some new potatoes grown in pots, strawberries doing better than they ever have before - actually manged to get enough for all of us to have some after tea a couple of times (it's usually a case of me eating one or two straight from the plant as they ripen!). Courgette plant has a few 'babies' coming along. Peas not so good and all cucumber plants have sadly passed away! Some onions have bolted so hoping others will be ok THey're in a bit of a shady spot so don't know if that's anything to do with it??
I've put a request on the Landshare website for a bit of land to grow veggies. Has anybody tried this? How'd it go??
WEll gotta go to bed now. Will try an post more often so be back soon,

Hi Everyone,
I have just finished reading the whole thread, and I would like to join you if I can. Started a pot but early days as OH hasn't had work for 5 months, and my own hours have been cut, so this could take so this could take some time!
Any idea what i could start growing now, or is it too late for this year? Probably best to start in pots, cos i have every variety of weed known to man out there!
My dream is to make our home self sufficient and energy efficient, as the energy costs are seriously ridiculous. I have done a few boot sales this year, but not to save, just to feed us for a few weeks. Now OH is working again i can put that money to the ' restoration' fund.
Hope you are all well and enjoying the good weather, the rains a comin tonight though. Should be good for the garden.Sealed pot Challenge 2011 member No 1241 - Final total £154.21

Hi all,
Put another €200 to the fund to-day, have been spending nothing lately which is why there is money, very little left now until end of next week, will just buy what I need to.
Carrots are nearly ready to start using thinnings for top of salad, 3 tomatoes just about ready....they are cherry ones though so won't go far, but not really buying much in the vegetable department these days, we have salad with every meal, even if it is only lettuce and scallions.
Good luck to everybody.

Hi Claudiac,
Sorry we havent replied; I'd guess everyone on this thread is busy in their gardens & allotments ATM. You are very welcome to join in here.
You could clear a small area and just plant a few quick things, like radish and lettuce. Follow that with Swiss chard, which will go through the winter. In the autumn you can also put in garlic.
To be honest I'm very rusty with veg, having devoted my last garden almost entirely to a flowering plant nursery. The flowers paid me more than the veg! If I'd been doing more edibles, I'd know what you could still get away with. Courgettes are pretty quick for example, so you'd surely get some of those before the frosts.
As I'm in rented unrtil next month I've just been growing cut & come again stir fry greens, lettuce, mizuna, Italian parsley, coriander and French sorrel in pots/troughs to go in our sarnies or for salads. That in itself saves a minor fortune for almost no effort.
Bet I have more weeds than you at my new place. My LL here gave me some lovely ones too. He's going to miss my TLC on the garden, which is quite nice, in an old-ladyish way, though beneath the tidyish appearance, the National Bindweed Collection still lurks untamed!0
