Well didn't get much done today as Arthritis? playing up something chronic with the damp weather (could be age I suppose:o) and run out of Ibuprofen.

Never mind, did do seed list on Excel and discovered where the gaps are, so will make a proper list of what to buy. Also did some research into geese - there is a West of England breed of goose, but couldn't find any for sale (not even incubateable eggs), but did find someone selling Buff Orpington eggs so might pick some of these up in the meantime.

Sorry to hear about some of the awful weather happening, just regular damp Cornish day here.

My arthritis has flared up again after years in remission. My doctor said she has seen a dramatic rise in people saying it's worse this year. She thinks it's down to the prolonged cold and damp weather this winter. I'm back on the anit-inflamatory drugs :(

The garlic was planted a while ago, but other than that I've not been to the allotment for ages. I do need to move the currant bushes and rhubarb in the garden, but I only have weekends and each weekend had seen frozen ground. The hens are all laying again after the winter/moult etc so I'm able to sell the eggs again.

Things are ticking over, but I'm still hoping that a long-lost relative will bequeath me some land/money/precious jewels in a will! :rotfl:

Seems like alot of us are in pain atm. My back has been sorted by the pysio again, which means I'm in extreme pain for a few days, especially as both kids are ill and at home, which means they need picking up all the time.
So, after going around and picking up the stuff everywhere after last nights storm, I'm adding up the jobs that urgently need doing and trying not to be in despair.
Chicken coop needs rebuilding for new chucks and needs badgerproofing.
Need compost urgently for garlic and chilli sowing, I'll have to see if I can get the garden centre to put them in the car. Also onions, carrots, leeks need sowing.
Need alot of leaf mould and garden compost put around the garden.
Need to cat sh*t proof the front garden edible growing area. Nothing works apart from chicken wire and my OH doesn't like that in the front garden very much.

And it's forecast to be windy and hard rain the whole weekend and I also want to go walking some time.

I'm sory so many people are sore ATM. Contrarily I'm feeling much better today....Just the normal aches and broken bits. :) Yesterday I felt like death. That I'm actually going out today....in a dress not muddy jeans is cheering me up too. :)

Lotus-Eater, walking in heavy rain (we have 2-3" forecast Sat/Sun) is no fun at all! Still, it might take your mind off your back. Sowing carrots? Run me thru how it works this early please, I dont bother until at least April as the germination seems hopeless, but I'll then sow thru to July for winter use

Ibuprofen? 1 tablet and my stomach is in knots, havent found an anti inflammatory yet that doesnt have bad side effects, bit of a b####r when your back goes into spasm, so its daily home back exercises as set by the physio :(

Listening now to the wind gusting through the copse opposite, but spring isnt far away. Cut down the autumn raspberries yesterday and planted suckers to fill gaps. New shoots were already emerging from the ground with bright green tightly-packed leaves. The rhubarb is shooting as well (we dont force it) one more reason for moving hens to a new winter spot.

Gradually weeding beds, manuring where needed, its been strange not having a winter construction project but it does allow you to get on with the growing preparation.

Finished emptying the three daleks into the wooden compost heaps, which are now 2/3rds full. One dalek was the wood shavings and chicken poo filled last summer and looking pretty good. Just need to top up heaps with the stinky municipal compost and they should be nicely ready in May for planting the squashes :)

That's sowing my carrots in pots. I sow in back porch and transfer to unheated greenhouse when germinated.
My maincrop of carrots in the ground will be later.

Worse night in the caravan - horrid, like the back wall was being spattered with ball bearings & the windows were gonna come in. And massive thunder again. It sounds like we missed the worse & further inland there are big trees across the roads & quite a lot of structural damage & quite heavy snow falls. Think it's to get bad again tonight & then move down the country but house build looks untouched, no panels moved - so that's alright - surprising.

Just sleety rain & grey yuck day - again. Half asleep, but couldn't be outside in this so a lazy day by the stove. To much sitting about making me fat & unfit.

    Lotus Eater, thanks for that

Choille, you've got it a lot worse than us but the gusts have picked up here, just looked out the window and the chicken coop and run was rocking and moving, much to the disgust of the hens. So more lashings fixed to more posts in ground and seems to be stable again.

Passed by the beach earlier, lots of driftwood blown high up the shingle so worth a trip next week for kindling and some logs, thats if nobody claims it first :(

Now hang on, if I remember someone told me years ago about the health problems burning driftwood. Something to do with the oil that it picks up.

Just had a quick look and it may be worth you doing a bit more investigating, the salt may affect the metal flue as well.
