I've been planting seeds in the old polytunnel this morning, but I'm glad to be out now, due to the noise of the plastic flapping. It's a very mild wind here and it looks as if the rain is going north and south of us, most of the time.
Hey alfie, you are getting to be a bit of a techie!
Glad the worst of it missed you, choille. Sorry some of you are feeling poorly. After last week's tree cutting I wasn't so good, but the warmer weather suits me, even if it is damp.0 -
Driftwood - wonderful rhiwfield if you can get it. Great to collect. I love going to a sandy beach nearish here to get shale for the hens & any odd bits of wood that have been washed up. When the tides out - and boy does it go out - you see the razor shell holes. I've never eaten them but if you pour salt in the hole the razors come popping out & that's how you grab 'em.
I too am at physio with hip & back problems & am getting there with my ex's. Tumeric makes a good anti-inflammatory as does ginger. Coffee is a no no but I'm a caffiene fiend.
I call this type of Winter - The Big Sit as that's about all you can do - hardly great excercise, but what can you do? Not as if I can run up & down the stairs.:rotfl:0 -
Managed to pick up an expansion water tank on e-bay for 99p, so will now try to incorporate this into watering - maybe use it to store water for watering the greenhouse to save carrying cans backwards and forwards. Now only have to get DD to pick it up for me. Will try to feed runoff from greenhouse into this - our rainwater is nice and soft here.
Haven't really had to resort to anti inflamatories until now, just got away with standard pain killers, but this winter has really be a pain quite literally.
Do geese need a very large pond? I only ask as if I can talk DH into getting some I want to make sure we dig a big enough hole! Will hire a mini digger as there are several jobs that need doing, and could be done in half a day.0 -
Doesn't drift wood sometimes burn blueish? I seem to remember that.
I've come home to a FUNCTIONING loo and sewage treatment plant and they are finishing the veg garden now. I'm so impressed. That reenactment of Somme going on out there now looks pretty decent tbh. They disturbed as little as possible and done such a good job of clearing up.
They are just sorting out my veggy plot hen they are off! I'll be starting on building my raised beds this weekend I guess! Amazing!0 -
OH wants a mini digger - he has managed to borrow one a couple of times & it is almost depressing how much you can do in an afternoon compared to weeks & weeks of spade work.0

To be honest I have toyed with the idea of buying one and then selling it on when I've finished the jobs that need doing. Looking at the hire charges (even without a driver) I'd probably save a mint in the long run if I could find one local to buy.0

Thing is the owner asked OH if he'd ever driven one & he said yes..............he soon learnt but it was a tad naughty. I think the local one had been bought at an auction - displenishing/bankrupt thing. He had a favour to call in - we got a water pipe trench & a bit of other cable stuff done but it's still not finished, but it's not here now. I would think if you're handy with mechanical stuff then it might be worth buying but hiring isn't too bad - getting it here is the problem. Where we used to live they would hire one in & burn it 24/24 - after getting it across a stretch of water with two boats tied together - mental.0

That's how I feel about a tractor atm. And a hoover. Seriously considering a field and yard hoover. If I had a hoover I wouldn't mind not having a tractor I don't think, not if we can fix the LR.0 -

Having worked out where you used to live, I can just see that. Had me in stitches although I suspect it was bl**dy hard. Having seen some of the rather interesting things people in the Highlands and Islands transport by boat, I suspect the Ealth and safety lot would have kittens.
I nearly applied for a course there last year but could not take either of the weeks off.
I think that when a piece of expensive or rarely available kit becomes available in areas like that, people really push themselves hard to make maximum use of it. I cannot imagine that incomes are that high?If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

Just had a quick look and it may be worth you doing a bit more investigating, the salt may affect the metal flue as well.
It was seasalt on either the survival thread or mardatha's thread, I thinkIf you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
