No it was a friend of mine that lives by the sea in another country, can't remember how we got onto the subject, but she was very insistent that drift wood not be burnt. Not that I do because I live too far from the sea. that's why I'd almost forgotten about it.

I never knew that! I haven't had a pheasant for years, had a brace of rabbits this week though :) I think I need one of those big cleavers, I always have problems getting the feet off easily.

Lots of pheasants here, but the folk who shoot them often don't like them, and unlike fish, you can't put them back!

I just used secateurs for the wings and feet. Think they might do a rabbit too. :)

Need to cat sh*t proof the front garden edible growing area. Nothing works apart from chicken wire and my OH doesn't like that in the front garden very much.

i think i have mentioned before but i use dead/dying holly leaves on my precious flower beds...the cats [and i have 3] hate em.....

Because I roast or casserole them skin on. Some people just make an incision and remove the breasts from under the skin and off the carcass then ditch the rest......or give the rest to their dogs. I don't give anything with feather still on to the dogs because I don't want them thinking I want MORE birds dead as a gift.

well, good news is that my RUBY let me walk up to her tday and give her a cuddle without putting a lead on or holding her headcollar....
Barney is being a bully at the moment but shes respecting him and will learn her place.

the BAD news is that i have just had 5 firemen in my lounge putting out a fire in my chimney !! i was sat here on my lap top and i heard a thundery sound and thought i know that sound !! ran outside and YEP she was blazing ! 3rd in 6 years.... i will get nectar points at this rate... i get it swept but it is SO tall it collects at the very top and away it goes... i have seriously got to look at getting it lined [££££S] and using a woodstove.

apart from that iv had a quiet day really...

Dave -I posted a link to youtube doing the pheasent peeling thing but then noticed how obscene the comments were so thought best to delete the link. My brother peels pigdeons. Pheasant is lovely meat. With the cockerels feet OH uses sheep clips what you clip their feet with to get off the feet & wings. They are like secateurs but about £10 dearer! Mates daughter in law is from out east & they roast the feet - mate says they are delicisious, but not for me. Haven't had pheasent in ages - not as many strutting about this part as there was - change of keeper who doesn't appear to be raising them.

Alfie - Do you burn a lot of wood?
Here they often sweep from the top - sounds like you need your pots scraping! They sort of clinker up.

Wind seems to be gusting up again. Even the weather man said ' Everyone on the NW coast will be bleary-eyed with the lack of sleep.
