Hey, the sun's shining :j:j
And its just 7 days until beacons blaze across the land to welcome the return of choille's sun as well.
Garden's looking sad after all the snow (and the rain) but every day is just that bit longer
I'll wait for Wilkos seed potatoes, they had Rocket last year which cropped really well in the local potato bucket competition.0 -
Heavy snow today & still not got to the shop but OH has bravely volunteered to go & get our & neighbour's bits & pieces. Does feel mild though now it's snowed & that biting wind has dropped. We were just saying how much more adapted we are to having stuff in, food & that.
We ate some beanfeast last night - a trip down memory lane. Anyone had that? Dehydrated soya stuff, ideal for camping or when you're mega skint. We once made a packet 85p last 5 meals for both of us - we did bulk it with veg & ended up having a scrape of it with pancakes on day 5. We have plenty of meat in the freezer but just had a pack in the cupboard. My bags of sugar are like bricks - I could build a wood store or something with them. Black cat seems to like licking the condesation off the window in the morning!
I'm really glad we struggled on with the old fence post rounding up. They fairly bang the heat out.
Feel a bit miffed that you're all thinking of planting seeds.0 -

Thinking being the operative word for me. I will probably do some sweetpeas this month but everything else will have to wait. Even things that need a really long year like peppers will not go in until next month. Even then it is touch and go.
The problem is that if they germinate, the no place for them to go when they start to bulk up, as I simply do not have enough window space or covered space.
Looked at cheapish greenhouses this morning on my way back from a meeting. Without a car, getting a freebie is not really an option. I actually think I might get the price back in two years. Need to think on it for a week or two.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

Ah yes, remember trying to make that in the campsite overlooking Tarbet (Harris). Even the midges there dont get much of a chance to settle and we had to shelter the burner.
I much prefer real homemade bean stew. and the last bits are lovely heated up in pancakes with a white sauce (mushrom being my favourite).
Choille, you sugar bricks are still usable - you just have home made loaf sugar. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

I saw a cheap polythene type cover thing advertised somewhere. One of those that look like a soft, see-through wardrobe. I think it was down to £9.99. I don't think it'd last & would have to be somewhere sheltered.
I got a load of windows off someone who renewed theirs but I have done nothing with them alas.
Homemade bean stew is probably much better than this packet stuff - just having a routle about in the cupboard & sealed boxes in the shed. Oh, I'll use the sugar up alright. Nothing much gets wasted.
I went down to the hen house as elderly Mrs hopperty has stayed in there today & it is so slidey I just about slid into the burn. Snow ontop of the ice.
I notice that my parsley appears to be still alive, poking through the snow & green. That is a surprise.
I haven't seen any little birds today which is unusual. I wonder where they go? The pinemarten-proofed fat balls are untouched. I'm going back to bed as I feel ruff ruff.0 -

I did a quick search on ebay for wool jumpers and this was one of the first that came up. I'll have two please.

A candle/burner would be a step too far for me today
hate to be a party pooper but it was a candle lit that started the fire in the flat that ended with two fireman losing thier lives.....0 -
iv had a bit of a lazy day!! BF has gone off back to his place and a friend called by [ known her since forever!, she went "solo" feb 09 and lived with me for A YEAR here whilst all settlements sorted and bought her own place last july] and i do miss her... we had such a laugh here but not in each others pocket! why cant men in my life be like that ???? anyway im going to her house tonight to help her paint her bathroom [we know how to live it up on a saturday nite!!] tho i have my doubts the task will be completed as we tend to get distracted and just have numerous cuppas and "yak" !!
i have been saving any cardboard boxes etc for my choille beacon....
i think about midday will be a good time for me as im guessing the sun will be at its highest and MAY be on choille????? let me know if different please....
anyway i hope u all have a pleasant evening0 -

We know someone who lives in germany who still uses real candles on their Christmas trees! I have to admit I'm envious but I don't think I could ever do that.
We're very fire safe for somewhat horrific personal reasons but we do use fire...open fires and candles. To be there is something very ''spiritual'' and primordial about flame and I find it somewhat ''necessary''.0 -
Well must of been a bit of a bug.
Sounds like a good evening Alfie to me. I love painting - Haven't done any for ages. I did in here before we moved in - the loo was purple & turquoise & the bedroom was dark red! That took some covering over.
I'll have a bit of a cardboard box burn about noon too. I do hope it stops snowing ( it's still coming down in fat flakes). Next Saturday a pal is having a cielidh, partly to celebrate her birthday - and partly to raise funds for her local community hall (no cards or pressies a donation on the door - which I think is a terrific idea). It's 30 odd miles away & we'd never get down & back if this keeps up.
Well I wasted that much time trying to work out turbo lister for ebaying that I haven't listed owt as yet, so that'll be this evening's task after a dollop of 'Beanfeast' & chips!
We really know how to live eh?0
